July 10, 2019 at 2:34 pm Iā€™m new to diesels , notably the 450C. Purchased and sea trialed the boat (sea Ray 420 DB) in Dec. At the sea trial and engine survey the motors ran in the mid 170ā€™s at cruise and 160-162 at idle. Now As I compare to other 450 C they seem to run about 160 at idle and at cruise. Fast forward 7 months both motors run 175-180F. At cruise Could it be that I have 180 thermostats? Nothing was noted as out of the ordinary with temps at survey and they …

One was horrible corroded ended up getting a new one from you guys.Ā  Only at WOT would they go to 170ish. A few days ago my gauge was spiking to 180 for a split second and then dropping back down. Almost looked like a gauge electrical issue because of the speed of the up and down. Then I star…

September 9, 2022 at 6:10 am Hi All,Ā Ā  Boat is a ’99 Searay 450 express bridge with twin 6CTA’s with 2,400 hours. They are v-drives. Due to shaft alignment issues, I bought 8 new motor mounts from SBMar and paid a mechanic to install them.Ā  In that process, the SW pumps had to be removed.Ā  On the strb side, SW pump is outboard.Ā  The motor mount under the SW pumps had to be cut out, so SW pump was removed.Ā  They shoved a rag in the SW pump hole to keep debris fro…

April 4, 2022 at 8:25 pm Just did my annual maintenance and my 10 micron filters were BLACK.Ā  Obviously I’ve got some algae in the tank.Ā  Any recommendations on an additive?Ā  A biocide like Bioguard? Anyone ever do the fuel polishing?Ā  I’m assuming they just run the fuel through a filter and not really clean the tank.Ā  Any thoughts would be appreciated.Ā

April 14, 2021 at 1:13 pm I’m not an expert by any stretch so hopefully someone who’s a hell of a lot smarter than me will chime in but IF coolant is coming out of your exhaust it means you might have a bad gasket seal between the cooling system and the intake/exhaust manifold, or the cylinder head/cylinder wall. If you open you coolant cap and smell exhaust that’s usually a sign of a blown gasket.

Does this upgrade make them bullet proof or should the prop sizing and fuel consumption still be the guideline?

The thermostats were not replaced but were checked at the time and was advised they did not need replacement – for what they cost it may be worth putting a new one in starboard cheers

February 23, 2021 at 7:35 pm 2001 QSM11’s on a 42 convertible and I noticed today (pre-purchase) that there are no sea water strainers on the raw water system. This “feels” like a bad design, but i’d like to believe there was good rationale by the boat builder when built. Should I move adding strainers to the top of my must-do list if survey is successful? Picture on next post.

January 8, 2021 at 6:45 pm Probably a stupid question but here it goes….had my mechanic put in 160 degree thermostats for my 6CTA’s. So obviously when running the boat that’s where they stay. So my question is how would I know if the engine is overheating? Assuming if there was an issue my gauges would reflect a problem? Or my alarm I guess?
