April 25, 2024 at 2:42 pm I am trying to find the right plunger and spring for my oil filter head.Ā  I somehow managed to loose the oil filter head after disassembling, so I had to order another one.Ā  I ordered all parts according to QSOL, and the plungers are different.Ā  I cannot seam to find the right plunger to fit this oil filter head.Ā  The plunger in this head installs from the bottom, as apposed to the top. October 19, 2023 at 9:18 am I recently purchased a new boat to me. Its a 31′ Bertram FBC. It has 2003 Yanmars 6LYA-STP 365 H.P. Each engine has right at 700 hrs on them. The gears are zf models 220A, ratio is 1.75:1 and she is propped at blade 22 x 24 x 1.75. I was told when lifted at the yard, that she weighs 18k pounds. It also refit by Cabrera Yachts in 2003. They tunneled the hull as well. This boat reminds me of Shooter that Seaboard refit. The old owne…

March 16, 2024 at 11:53 am I have an engine that I am getting prepared to rebuild.Ā  The cam part number does not match the part number in the parts manual for CPL 741. I did some research for a supersession part, but apparently the part number that the manual shows is the newest part number.Ā  From my research the cam in CPL 741 is 392039 and that replaced 3925582′.Ā  The cam in my engine has a strange part number, but it comes up on a search.Ā  The cam I removed from …

March 19, 2024 at 9:21 am my 150hp 4bt overheated, so I am trying to save money on a rebuilding it.Ā  I purchased the 65hp 4b a long time ago for a parts engine.Ā  When I purchased it, I did not realize the differences between the engines.Ā  When I disassembled the 4b, I seen that this engine has almost no time on it.Ā  I am cross referencing the parts of the 4b to use on the 4bt rebuild.Ā  I figure that any part that has less time on it, I will use for my rebuild. January 27, 2024 at 10:47 am Late last summer, I had an idler pully bearing seized up, slung a belt, then I had a major overheat.Ā Ā  I pulled the exhaust manifold, turbo, and head.Ā  I bared the head, and block, and didn’t have any warpage.Ā  As you can see, the pistons were not melted down.Ā  There was some surface rust, and cylinder scaring.Ā  Against my judgement, my partner on the boat just wanted to put everything back together so he could use the boat. I installed a …

January 5, 2024 at 3:57 pm I am redesigning the exhaust system on my boat (Bertram 31)Ā  I was copying Shooters exhaust, but with a few changes.Ā  I ran 4″nominal for the dry section, and used a 6″ OD for the mixer.Ā    The gap between the dry exhaust, and the wet side on the mixer is 5/8″ On the mixer, I noticed Seaboard flares the inside (dry) portion of the exhaust.Ā  Is this to hold water back a bit for better cooling?Ā  Should I in some way close th…

July 25, 2023 at 9:49 am I had a line break from the cav pump to the injector over the weekend. The parts manual shows 2 different possibilities for a fuel line: 3903523 which is 1.8mm or 3906030 which is 2.0mm my pump tag: U3042F310 17880058FDU 99L1400-9-3075

March 21, 2023 at 7:33 am I wanted to get some thoughts on this. I am replacing the exhaust manifold on one of my 4bt’s. Yesterday, I was cleaning the gasket surfaces on this project. The exhaust out side of the turbo where the mixer attaches is not in the best of shape. I attempted to surface it with a belt sander to get it back to a clean surface. I am super anal about gasketed surfaces being perfect. I was considering putting this on a milling machine, and …

January 31, 2023 at 10:15 am I changed my plans on the new expansion tank install.Ā  I had some questions, and wanted to make sure I am on the right track.Ā  I need to get a few parts on order, and I am hoping to get everything on one ticket.Ā Ā          Due to having very limited space under the motor covers on a Bertram 28, I decided to build motor boxes.Ā  I want to mount the expansion tank and overflow bottle against the cabin wall as shown in the picture…

December 2, 2022 at 10:10 am I am finally beginning the process of upgrading my 4BT cooling to match the 6BT 210hp.Ā  I wanted to get some input on the direction I am going.Ā Ā  I purchased expansion tanks that I believe are made for a 6bt used for a generator.Ā  These seem to be the best I can find that will work in the limited space my boat offers.Ā  These tanks came with a bracket that I am modifying to fit my 4bt’s.Ā  I attached a picture and circled the holes that I am…

December 2, 2022 at 7:56 pm The 4BT “shakes” vigorously to put it mildly at low RPM / Idle speed.Ā  I had problems with a similar expansion tank that I modified and mounted with brackets.Ā  I had a weld crack and leak coolant. March 11, 2022 at 6:31 am Iā€™m working in installing my Enviro vent kits today, A concern I had was the valve cover style kit coming in contact with the engine cover. Ā CanI move the front valve cover to the rear valve cover and the kit still function properly, or does the fill have to be the highest point. Ā With the angle of the engines, the rear valve cover will give me plenty of room.

October 4, 2021 at 7:28 am I was performing fluid changes on my 4bt’s over the weekend, both gear boxes, and both engines. I removed the dip stick from the gear box, and the back of my hand bumped my air filter. The back of my hand had black engine oil on it, that had collected under the filter. Earlier in the year, I had some oil in my bilge, I figured out the oil was leaking out of a vent tube that is attached to the push rod inspection plate at the rear of the…

July 21, 2021 at 3:08 pm I was wondering if I could pick some brains on an issue that I am struggling to find. I recently finished refurbishing my Bertram 28 FBC. August 5, 2021 at 9:56 am I was thinking along your lines on the boat having prop issues. I dinged the port prop when I was testing for the overheat issue. I was telling my business partner that my thoughts on the egt on that engine is the prop ding, and that engine is overworking. When I say ding, I mean one blade tip was slightly curled. My background is tournament inboard ski/wake/surf boats. In our field, a prop will look perfect, but the slightest un-seeable be…

July 25, 2021 at 1:48 pm Iā€™m searching for a lucus cav pump for 4bt part number on the pump is 3042F310, or equivalent? I purchased a 4bt for. I was going to use that pump, but it seems yhe pump regulates the horsepower.
