I am redesigning the exhaust system on my boat (Bertram 31)  I was copying Shooters exhaust, but with a few changes.  I ran 4″nominal for the dry section, and used a 6″ OD for the mixer.

The gap between the dry exhaust, and the wet side on the mixer is 5/8″ On the mixer, I noticed Seaboard flares the inside (dry) portion of the exhaust.  Is this to hold water back a bit for better cooling?  Should I in some way close that gap at the exit of the mixer to slow the flow of water?

Anyone see any flaws with my design?

    Spray ring design

Spray ring design is 100% essential to proper cooling of what comes after the EXHAUST MIXER (rubber hose and FRP Tubing) ..  No one design fits all but with that said, because both mixers are pointed vertically down make things easier as long as the water inlet to the mixer angle helps in the mixing  or “swirling process”.. Study my pictures in my various articles on this web site. The secrets are there.
