November 22, 2017 at 11:00 pm New to the forum. I’m out of Biloxi, MS and I’m running a 25ft Whitewater center console straight shaft inboard. Not too many guys run this kind of setup here but as I have found it eats up the nasty weather we get so its a win for me. I’ve been an outboard guy before this and this is my first inboard boat so I’ve learned a lot over the past two years of ownership. Now on to the topic, I am currently going through a repo…

November 8, 2017 at 9:47 pm Hello, I have a Sea Ray boat with Cummins QSB 5.9 engines. 425hp. I noticed that there was some corrosion? on the side heat exchangers on both sides, but only at 1 end. Refer to photos.. Can someone please tell me what is happening here? There is no fluid leaking at the moment, but would like to resolve this issue before it becomes larger. Also, I know I’m asking alot, but possible remedy and parts required also would help heaps. October 29, 2017 at 10:20 am In Tony’s post about the raw water pump and removal / service nightmare there is mention of “upgrading to a better pump” where the removal and servicing is not so tedious…. Anyone know what pumps are easier to remove and service? Attached is the mess that is on my port motor with a leaking raw water pump with signs of prolonged leaking…. August 2, 2017 at 9:08 am I have a 1999 Shamrock express with a Yanmar 4LH-DTE. Recently I have lost 4 rpm and about 4-5 mph. I have changed the fuel filters, air filter, and made sure the bottom and running gear is clean. Nothing has changed. The engine runs fun. no blue, black, or white smoke when running. I have no idea what it can be. The prop seems to be in good shape although I think its fairly old and has been reworked a few times. Is it possible that it’s p…

June 19, 2017 at 1:42 pm Iā€™m experiencing black smoke from both of my engines ONLY while trolling in the 1800-2000 rpm range. Boat seems to be plowing through the water and putting strain on engines. No smoke at idle or when the boat gets up on plane. My friend has the same engines and 2002 Albemarle 280 express. He has about 600 hours on his engines and just replaced the turbos. He is experiencing the same black smoke issue in that rpm range. I purchased the boat…

June 23, 2017 at 10:40 am Ken, You don’t need to run the boat at WOT with a photo tach hooked up. I think you already had the info I was asking about. I am just a bit confused on your reading, probably all on my end. You already gave the info, but could you list Tach = 3300 Strobe = ? With 4 blades you may well be a bit over propped. If you look at the spec sheet Rob posted you will see that Yanmar would like to see these engines turn up 3450 to 3550 RPM under …

June 1, 2017 at 5:53 pm Brian, Good post, IMO I personally prefer a different method for any diesel engine when adjusting valves.. I look at the firing order and label each cylinder.. Pull the valve cover and start barring over the engine (in the correct rotation).. I watch for any intake valve that is closing and when is stops moving, I adjust the EXH valve as I know it is now 100% closed.. I keep rotating while watching the next cylinder inline and feeling for TD…

April 5, 2017 at 4:57 pm Engine is a 4LH-DTE. Trying to remove the raw water pump and it won’t come. Am I missing something, I removed the supply hose, two nuts and two bolts. It wiggles, but won’t come. I tapped it with a piece of wood and a hammer, but I am hesitant to go much more than light taps. Also, I believe there are two o rings that seal this back up. one for the front gear case and the other for the discharge tube. Are they reusable? or is it best…

March 31, 2017 at 6:23 am With the white smoke going away shortly after startup, you can be pretty sure that your injectors are fine. While I agree with Tony’s recent post, I still wonder if there might be some reason your engine isn’t making its 370 rated hp and that is why it is smoking. First confirm governor performance by opening the throttle to wot in neutral. You should hit 3,700 rpm, the high idle spec. If not then investigate your governor/fuel injec…

February 3, 2017 at 7:58 am Pulled the heat exchanger off my Kohler 5EOZ genny yesterday and pressure tested it last night. January 1, 2017 at 2:46 pm Hello, I have a pair of 3208 375hp engines in a 37 Bertram (4,200 hours). Ā The issue is that the stb. engine is getting weak. It now only turns up to 2650. Both turned up to 2800 when I purchased the boat three years ago. Ā The pt. engine still turns up to almost 2800 (2750), probably not all the way because of the stb. motor not providing as much power.
