After talking with the tech for a bit. he told me what he was doing to try and start the boat. Pretty sure he accidentally ran the sequence that messed up the TPS sensor. So I reset the system and and re calibrated the TPS and it worked. Hope it helps the next guy.. What was tough was there wasnā€™t any codes flashing on the system. Now while I …

August 27, 2020 at 1:42 pm 2005 Kohler 15.5 EOZ Generator with 1,568 hours. Out of the blue, generator will not start. No prior indication of an issue. When I press either the remote start or the one on the generator itself I get a fast banging noise from the starter. Checked the battery and it’s fine with voltage and a load test. Figured it was the starter so I removed that and brought it to a mechanic shop. They tested it and said it was fine. Put it back on after…

June 13, 2020 at 12:03 pm Hello All, I want to get your opinions on what is necessary as my Yanmar 6LPA-DTP engines roll over the 1000 hour mark. A little history on the engines/boat: Bertram 28, the boat is lift kept in South Florida, repowered in 2006 with 6LPA-DTP (260hp, 2 valves/cylinder), 3960 max rpm, engines run 165* F water temperature, max cruise rpm is 3250, a little bit of white smoke on idle, little black smoke on first acceleration, freshwater flush after u…

November 21, 2020 at 3:32 am A bit late on my response. I have a 6LPA-STP with 7200 hours (6500 hours put on in the last 3 to 4 years). I imagine the service is very similar. In my annual haul up I have my mechanic do the valve adjustment, and we change the timing belt (we put on about 2,000 hours per year). The timing belt always looks great, but not about to chance it. I do have good access in front of my engine to change it however. I did change my elbows to the HDI Mari…

May 11, 2020 at 9:32 am Hello all, Thank you in advance as always for the wealth of information here. Sourcing parts to change my timing belt on 6lp. I decided I should change the coolant since they are so coolant sensitive and I need to pull the crossover pipe anyway. This lead me down the current bunny hole as to what coolant is correct. It seems Yanmar’s approved coolant list is extremely dated and based off Asian companies that are mainly out of business now …

August 1, 2020 at 8:19 am I think Yanmar typically uses softer engine mounts than Cummins. If there is any inherent vibration the Yanmar will tend to rock-and-roll a bit more, while not transmitting that motion as strongly to the boat. I had Yanmars for years before the Cummins I have now.

June 26, 2020 at 8:50 am First post. Just acquired the engine but minus the riser after turbo. Looked at replacements and at having one fabricated. Something about the design just doesn’t make sense to this “closed loop cooling” noobie.
