July 18, 2018 at 9:57 pm Hello everyone, this is my first time as I’m in the process of buying a new (to me) boat. I have some concerns and they may be unwarranted but I’m seeking advice and information. The boat is a 2008 and has the Cummins QSC 8.3 engines with approx 450 hours on them. I don’t know much about diesel engines but have quickly learned a lot because of this awesome site. I have an offer on the boat that is contingent on everything getti…

    • QSC SmartCraft Error 2265

September 21, 2020 at 10:15 am Error 2265 – Prime Pump High Error popped up this weekend. It’s come up before but went away. After searching the forum it seems like either “Clean the Contacts” or replace the Fuel Transfer Pump. What are your thoughts on this and if it’s replace the pump, is it available through SBMar? If so, can you give me the link or part number? Thanks!

    • Cummins QSC “low seawater flow” alarm

This topic has 7 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated byTony Athens 4 years ago

November 16, 2019 at 5:42 pm Cummins QSC ā€œlow seawater flowā€ alarm came up today for the Port engine. Cleaned strainer, plenty of flow into strainer, Impellers only have about 80 hours on them, plenty of water coming out exhaust. Ran boat and it doesn’t get above 165 degrees and runs at the same temp as Starboard engine. So, I’m guessing it’s the sensor. Also, I can’t clear the alarm from the SmartCraft. It let me clear it a couple of times as I star…

September 28, 2019 at 6:27 pm Brand name HD SAE30 wt that would be used in a diesel engine –Delo 400, Rotella T come to mind.. ZF does recommend a few 15W-40’s too.. Download the ZF Oil spec sheet from this web site. Don’t re-invent the wheel on this. Tony

    • QSC aftercooler removal

This topic has 2 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated byjeff vargas 4 years ago

September 25, 2019 at 7:21 am I’m going to remove my aftercoolers in the next couple of weeks and send them in for service. Looking at the mounting points, it looks like some bolts on the bottom can’t be accessed without removing the fuel/oil cooler. Is it possible to remove the aftercooler while leaving the fuel/oil cooler in-place? Do I need to remove the fuel/oil cooler to do this? I plan to get the fuel/oil cooler serviced too so I’d just like to know w…

    • Cummins QSC 8.3 Impeller dilemma

This topic has 5 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated byjeff vargas 4 years ago

May 10, 2019 at 7:28 pm Fellas I need a little assistance. I ordered the Super 26’s from here https://www.sbmar.com/product/super-26-impeller-cummins-qsc/ and in great anticipation of changing them today, I took the cover plate off one pump and I was surprised to see they do not look the same. The ones I have currently are threaded. Good news is, all splines were all intact. Anyone know what’s up? I’m including pics of my current impellers and pump h…

May 11, 2019 at 11:15 am Thanks Phil, I considered pulling it. I’m going to go pick up a 25 cent bolt at home depot. I plan on spraying some Kroil on it and bump the engine once or twice to loosen it up. I also have some Metalube on hand so plan to use that on the new ones. It was the threads that through me off when I saw them. It all makes sense now. This forum and you guys have been a life saver and have saved tons of $$$ doing this stuff myself. Thanks guys!

    • Cummins QSC Aftercooler housing removal

This topic has 10 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated byjeff vargas 5 years ago

April 30, 2019 at 8:56 pm I have a question on housing removal. In the attached picture, is it possible to loosen and slide the pictured hose up on to the elbow to remove the housing or does the elbow have to be removed from the engine? If the whole elbow needs to be removed, what O-ring do I need to replace that? I see the O-ring kit for sale here for the rest of the aftercooler. Any recommendations on steps to removing the housing for service?

May 6, 2019 at 11:25 am Thanks John, makes sense and I’ll see how they look once I take it off. Any “tribal knowledge” you can share on removal and install of the housing? Is there any sequence I should follow or just work from left to right?? Seems like just some wrenching and time involved in doing this. I’m not a mechanic but am very handy. I’m sure once I do this once it’ll be pretty straight forward. I’m just a little ner…

February 4, 2019 at 9:08 pm I just went into contract to purchase a 2008 – 50 ft Sea Ray with Cummins QSC 8.3 engines with 500 hours. The boat is in San Diego – Shelter Island. I’m looking for a reputable mechanic in the area to check out the engines and generator very thoroughly. Need to get this done in the next 2 weeks. You guys are the experts and I’d love to get one of you out to do it but if not, can you recommend someone that is trustworthy? …
