Corey, thanks for the input. I’d like to ask 2 dumb questions. I’m not at the boat so I can’t look at the engine but would love input before i go down to the marina. 1. Where is this pump located? 2. Is it readily apparent if it’s 12v or 24v? I’d like to order one but want to make sure I order the correct one. Thanks in advance!

Thank you and that was the first time I’ve seen that measurement. I found a convertor on Google and looks like about 1.5 gallons.

No problems, I haven’t changed the oil and I’m preparing to. I just need to know how much to buy.

Makes total sense! My first inclination it was a sensor was that it “alarmed” immediately after starting the engine and there was plenty of water flow. Just had to find the dang thing.

So I figured this out and this may be specific to my 48 Sea Ray Sundancer exhaust mixing elbow. There’s a sensor on the mixing elbow. While I was working to replace my sanitation hoses, I must have knocked something loose on the sensor. I removed the wire connectors, cleaned them and alarm disappeared. I just wanted to follow up in case anyone ever comes across this alarm.

Thanks Cory, when looking at it that makes perfect sense. I was hoping there was a shortcut or tribal knowledge I could leverage.

Thanks Phil, I considered pulling it. I’m going to go pick up a 25 cent bolt at home depot. I plan on spraying some Kroil on it and bump the engine once or twice to loosen it up. I also have some Metalube on hand so plan to use that on the new ones. It was the threads that through me off when I saw them. It all makes sense now. This forum and you guys have been a life saver and have saved tons of $$$ doing this stuff myself. Thanks guys!

Now this makes all kinds of sense. 3/4 – 16.

Thanks Rob! After searching images on the web that’s kind of what I was thinking. I didn’t want to try pulling it out and have the wrong replacement. A special thanks as you answered my next question which was the 3/4 fine thread. I’ll be doing this today. Much appreciated!

And you can probably just call in here and order them. I plan to do my after-coolers soon and I’m just getting everything here. I’ve shopped around and everything here seems to be your best bet and the crew here are very responsive.

I don’t have the part numbers but another fellow member shared this parts picture with me so this may help identify the exact clamps you’re referring to. Are they #7 you’re looking for?

Thanks John, makes sense and I’ll see how they look once I take it off. Any “tribal knowledge” you can share on removal and install of the housing? Is there any sequence I should follow or just work from left to right?? Seems like just some wrenching and time involved in doing this. I’m not a mechanic but am very handy. I’m sure once I do this once it’ll be pretty straight forward. I’m just a little nervous since I just go this boat and I don’t want it down during prime boating weather.

Thanks Rob, I’ve got 46785664 and 46785650. Just looking for the O-ring on the after-cooler elbow. I can get everything else here including new hoses. Much appreciated!

I am on QSOL but sometimes find it hard to find stuff on there. I think they made some changes awhile back and then I had to re-register. It actually is pretty useful once you get the hang of it. Actually, I’m probably just being lazy and I find sbmar.com easier to use. Thanks Rob! I’ll get off my ass and put some time in…lol

Phil, that’s exactly what I was thinking. I plan on getting the O-ring “kit” from this site for the aftercooler work. I’m kinda surprised it doesn’t come with that elbow o-ring. Any idea on that part number for that? For a few bucks it makes sense to just replace it after going through all the work. Thanks for helping out!

Thanks, really appreciate the help! The guys at the local Cummins were pretty much useless on marine applications with this engine.

Hey Phil, I have a stupid question. I went and picked up my Coolant today and the parts guy asked me if I needed filters. Hmmmm, I was puzzled as I didn’t see any coolant/water filters anywhere on the engines. I bought them anyway as they were cheap and I didn’t want to go back and figured WTH. So today, I’m back at the boat and I can’t find coolant filters anywhere on the engines. Am I blind? What is it that I don’t know? Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this.

I’ve read through all the info on the aftercoolers on this site. This site has been so helpful it’s not even funny. It’s saved me from buying some pretty shitty boats, and there’s a lot out there. Every time I asked a broker about aftercooler maintenance they all went silent. What I’ve found is a bunch of unscrupulous brokers trying to sell boats that haven’t been maintained. All a bunch of crooks! And then I found this boat after about a years search that actually had maintenance records.

I think the whole aftercooler process is beyond my ability both mechanically and time wise. I could probably pull the port engine one off but the Starboard engine will need the exhaust tube pulled just to be able to get to it. That is unless you know some trick to pulling the cores while the manifolds remain. But then again, if it’s going to get done, I assume the whole thing should be pulled off and pressure tested and done right. The boat is a 2008 48 Searay Sundancer. What I’d really be interested in is hiring someone in the San Francisco Bay Area that is trustworthy, competent and knows how to do the job right.

Do you travel Phil? šŸ™‚ Any recommendations?
