      May 9, 2017 at 7:45 pm Single hose clamps on any coolant connections need to be very high quality, especially on any high performance diesel engine.. The constant torque ones that Ā Cummins uses fit that description……………………….We prefer them along with using Rectorseal #5 on all barb/beaded connections Ā and then re-tightening after one or two cold hot cycles..Ā    Tony

I went to do an impeller service this spring and found the leads going to the always on power studs/terminals for the ECM short and tight and in the way of being able to remove the raw water impeller. It’s “idea” is to vent the Ā “crankcase blowby gases to a low pressure areas” near the air cleaner……………………….We have done a few custom Envirovent systems for the QSC, but until you have a “messy” issue that your want to mitigate, I’d let it be..   TonyĀ

      May 3, 2017 at 8:28 am Yes those systems can be tricky as they’re looped into the engines “ECM Power” circuit… if the syste triggers, the engine will shutdown completely…Ā  Do you have an override feature at the helm station in case of emergency?

      April 29, 2017 at 8:37 pm I had a small leak or seep from a vent return line at the engine block that I understand is a common thing. Ā I disassembled the whole thing and clean,it all up. Then I used rector seal #5 with a fresh square o-ring. I’m hoping it doesn’t leak anymore. Ā

      April 29, 2017 at 1:05 pm I run groco SSC on top of the strainer. I use a section of hose run to a hose shut off at the end of the regular hose.Ā  Close through hulls. Put flush on. Turn on hose with shut off closed. Start motor and turn on water from shut off at same time so it doesn’t run dry. When I am done, I turn hose off and engine at same time. Disconnect flush and leave through hulls closed. Ā All water left in system from the pump on is fresh.Ā

      April 23, 2017 at 2:51 am I note from the specification sheet that the EGT at the turbo outlet for my QSB 6.7 550s is 970F. Ā When running at my normal “easy” cruise of 2600 rpms and around 50% load, I see an EGT reading of about 660F. Ā Is this telling me anything apart from it being very unlikely that the engine is overloaded? Ā The EGT does not seem to change a whole lot unless running at displacement speed.       April 22, 2017 at 10:09 pm Spent the day painting the new aftercoolers. Figured I would throw a fresh coat of paint on the gear/oil and heat exchanger while I was at it. While prepping the gear/oil cooler I found a crack in the brazing at the gear oil fitting. Come to find out the gear/oil cooler doesn’t customarily get pressure tested as the oil is at 350 psi would leak out and the fuel would show a leak in the water in fuel alarm.       April 19, 2017 at 10:06 am Hi, my starter batteries (6-bta 370hp diamond) are almost dead. Currently I have one Varta LFD230 amp, CCA 1150 on each engine + separate battery for consumption. I am hoping these are overkill so I can save weight and money. Can anyone recommend a good starter battery, alternatively advise whether one of below batteries would be adequate: Varta LFD140 amp, CCA 800 Varta AGM 105 amp, CCA 950Ā
