July 25, 2023 at 9:53 am Hello, My engines at cruise power (75-80% load) are running about 185 deg.Ā  Wondering if this is a concern at all. Aftercoolers will be serviced this winter.Ā  I have 2005 QSB 5.9 engines.Ā  What should the normal operating temp range be?

    • Diesel View to Vessel View 1.5 question

This topic has 5 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated byAndy 1 year ago

November 20, 2021 at 8:34 am Hello, I’ve read all the great info on here regarding SmartCraft but just need a short answer. I found a used Vessel View 1.5 unit and would like to use it to replace the old Diesel View. Is this as simple as plug and play? Connectors on the back look the same. I realize the mounting hole would need to be enlarged a bit. Just wondering about the harnesses. Thanks in advance.

April 10, 2023 at 2:11 pm Tony, I think I may be at a dead end. I have installed a used VesselView 1.5, 84-8M0054863 harness, 4993480 adapter harness and an ignition harness to connect port and stb. junction boxes.Ā  However, I also have the old SIM revision, as defined in SBMAR’s “cummins-dieselview-display-upgrades” post. Do I understand right, that no matter what I do, the old SIM revision will not work with anything newer that the Diesel View unit th…

October 10, 2022 at 9:03 pm Winterizing question. I have QSB 5.9 engines .Was thinking about using fresh water tank filled with pink to feed engines through strainer flush fittings to winterize. (I would attach a short hose from engine room spigot to strainers).. Has anyone done this? Any potential issues? Not sure if engine suction along with fresh water pump pressure would be ok. Side note: I did do this on the genny last year as it wasnā€™t pulling from the bucket and it …

October 11, 2022 at 6:19 pm Hard to picture or know how the freshwater pump plays into it but the engine will develop plenty of suction so just make sure it’s sucking what you want it to. Ā Don’t try to feed the engine anything….let it drink with its own pump.

December 30, 2019 at 2:48 pm I have QSB’s 2005 and want to do away with the old smartcraft screens, and upgrade to the SMX panels on this site. I also have the mechanical gauges that are smartcraft. My question is, do I use the original wiring harness/loom on the engine or does the engine wiring also get changed when I upgrade the control panel, and do I eliminate all the mechanical gauges?

    • Fresh water flush with engine off.

May 23, 2020 at 8:23 am I was just reading a comment Tony made about being able to flush the engine when off with the right exhaust. My exhaust is thru the bottom of the hull. So water is introduced in a shower ring just before it exits the boat. So water running simply falls out. Iā€™m removing my fuel cooler, installing a 115 degree pump exit and was going to run a hose down to bypass the cooler (6CTA8.3) Now Iā€™m thinking this would be the perfect spot to install a hos…

July 1, 2021 at 9:07 am My set up is fantastic! Very simple and only take a couple of minutes (by myself) to flush with the engines off. Its so simple to do, I flush these engines every time I start a motor. I can do this because (as you can see in the pictures I posted) my exhaust is discharged directly through the bottom of the hull (NO Exhaust lift)(not common) As for yours, its not the exhaust leaving the engine you have to evaluate, it how it gets out of the boat…

March 2, 2021 at 12:31 pm Hello. I have QSB 5.9 circa 2005 engines. Need to replace an alternator. Looks like the 19SI is correct but not sure if the 105 amp or 145 amp is appropriate. Can’t get to motors now due to shrink wrap. Thanks in advance for your input. BTW Replacing an alternator due to an occasional intermittent metallic rubbing sound.

October 30, 2020 at 3:24 pm Should be fine. I run 6 gallons through my 6BTAā€™s. I first pull the zincs to drain the coolers to minimize dilution. I catch what drains out the transom exhaust outlets and check with a refractometer and itā€™s always a match to whatā€™s in the jug.

May 11, 2020 at 6:33 am Just got 390 sea ray with 380 QSB 1000 Hours. Engines were surveyed and oil samples came clean. Just had props scanned and repitched because I was above the curve and wasn’t making max RPMs. Props scanned at 21×23 in. They repitched to 21x 21.5 in and that brought me down to the curve. Also had a cyclical vibration at around 1000 RPMs that went away with the prop service.

    • SMX water pump replacement on QSB

This topic has 3 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated byMike Mason 4 years ago

April 15, 2020 at 9:07 am Hello. Just wondering how difficult it is to replace the water pumps on QSB 5.9 engines circa 2005 with SMX pumps. The SMX pump says “plug and play”. Can someone explain the replacement process? I’m assuming plug and play means that the existing pulley assembly stays on and the new pump shaft plugs in so to speak? I am very handy but have never replaced water pumps. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks!
