October 7, 2022 at 5:17 am There are some cracks and splits in the first 12″ or so which I have wrapped and the insurance company wants to see it replaced. Providing the last 5 ‘ are in good condition do you think I can use a fiberglass sleeve and add on a new section for the first few feet??

October 8, 2022 at 7:24 pm Why is it cracking and splitting? Ā Could point to raw water supply problems, lack of support or vibration damping, or simply old age. Ā  Ā  Your insurance company shouldnā€™t have to tell you when maintenance is dueā€¦

September 27, 2022 at 5:28 am I am not getting a fuel level reading on the Smart Craft VV- . How is the level communicated to the VV from the tanks? Is there a sensor in the tank wired to a harness?

    • Temp spike

August 30, 2021 at 8:37 am Recon QSB 5.9-425hp 425 hrs Recently ran for 5 hours at 2600 while temp held steady at 178. return trip at 4 hours it bumped up to 181-183. I backed off to 2500 and it resumed back to 178. This occurred a few weeks before so I installed new 165 stat which had same result.Should I be concerned about a few degrees fluctuation? The AC was serviced at 250 hrs but the HX has not yet.

August 31, 2021 at 11:38 am My baseline on my 480CE’s has been 159/161 on plane(2150rpm) since the beginning of the season. 2 weeks ago things changed a bit and I do not know why. Now they run 159/165. Still WELL within spec but something caused the 4degree climb on strbd. I figure this could be a bunch of different things as I had the entire cooling circuit serviced back in June/July once our mechanic had time on his schedule. We acquired the boat in late April…

October 7, 2017 at 12:42 pm HX end caps can safely be removed and reinstalled .. You are looking for excess/old Zinc clogging of the tubes.. Never remove the Aftercooler caps without a complete service of the engine. Tony

    • Exhaust tube replacement

This topic has 4 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated byjohn maybeck 6 years ago

June 12, 2017 at 7:35 am The exhaust tube right off the engine has some very small cracks on the top of the tube which is where the highest temps would be . Underneath it is fine. These cracks at within the first 4 – 5″ off the manifold QSB 5.9 #1. The tube is 6″ – is that the I.D. ? #2. Is there a way to cut out the affected section and splice in a piece, instead of replacing the entire length @ 5 ‘??

June 26, 2017 at 11:54 am Thanks Rob, It’s not a manner of $ and or access. Just thought to try a simpler approach for a temporary fix. I will replace the entire run @ 5 ‘ when I have a chance to get the hose and the time. In the mean time I will p/u a piece of Shields 200 non-wired 8″ and trim it down and clamp accordingly. Thanks for you input.

    • Alternator output QSB 5.9

June 5, 2017 at 1:34 pm I have repowered with a factory recon QSB 5.9. The Alternator doesn’t not excite until I am underway and am up to @ 2300 rpm. Then I get 13.5 V + (-) at the helm which remains relatively constant at any rpm. Belts are tight and battery isolator is operational. If I jump the isolator Alt post to a 12 volt terminal it wakes up the alternator and I get the correct output at low rpm. Does a single lead self exciting alternator need to reach hi…

June 6, 2017 at 5:35 pm There is NO SUCH THING as a “QSB alternator”…..Your same alternator, regardless of what is is, could come on many different engines……………Not less than 5 possible factory QSB alternator options & none of them say “QSB alternator”.. .. Let’s ID the EXACT alternator.. That requires very good pictures and maybe an engine serial number too if what you have came from the factory on t…
