July 19, 2021 at 1:46 pm Losing oil. 1995 6cta. Yes I did empty, measure, and mark dipstick. I lose about a gallon of oil to 100 gallons fuel burn. Oil sheen out the exhaust. Small drip between turbo and after cooler at the rubber joint. Most is going out the exhaust Iā€™m pretty sure. Two separate problems or could they both be tied into the leak at the turbo? Thanks Jim

July 19, 2021 at 6:02 pm 1) Post a few pics of the turbo showing all Exhaust thru air cleaner… Let me “see” what you are dealing with externally.. 2) “turbo” Holset rebuild kits are in the $300 range.. Are you hands on? You do not even need to remove the turbo to do a “KIT”.

May 17, 2020 at 7:40 pm I thought it was the pan gasket. Nope, not so lucky. Itā€™s on the port side. Just above where the pan gasket and rear main seal meet. I have been told by a great retired cummins marine factory mechanic that it looks to be a freeze plug or plate gasket in there. I hope my terminology is correct. Transmission needs to come off and all seals/gasket/plugs need to be redone. I have a company willing to pull it apart, seal it up and put it back …

December 17, 2019 at 7:13 pm 450 diamonds from 1995. Twins (all 4 gauges, fly-bridge and pilothouse) oil pressure gauges read low. I verified with a set of mechanical gauges right on the engine. if i have 25 psi they read 6 psi. I replaced sending units and made sure they were marked “D” for dual stations. Replaced the gauges, no help. The problem is that they set off my stock cummins alarms behind the tachs at idle, and also dont give me a true reading u…

January 12, 2020 at 9:52 am Early Cummins off engine harnessing used 14Ga wire for the Ground, the Red + up the the dash, and the purple IGN + back to the engine——————————-Major voltage drops.. All these of those were upgraded to 10Ga down the road.. Running a new direct ground to the panel was a good call.

    • Bosch fuel injector pump internal meltdown

June 16, 2019 at 8:38 pm 1995 6cta. Rebuilt three years ago by maybe not the best company. It has ran great for 500 hours and the Bosch fuel injector pump had an internal meltdown. I removed the lifter pump. Lifter pump looks good but there were lots of metal shavings behind it. The internal shaft in the injector pump was a mess. The Bosch pump is now in the rebuild shop. Any thoughts on what may have caused that to fail? I donā€™t want to rebuild it and have it h…

August 8, 2019 at 11:30 am So after all the dust settled, the company did more than they had to, I’m good. They sent me a new pump. I was way out of warranty but they did more than they had to. They all but admitted fault, we all make mistakes. I still have the labor $ but it could have been worse.

May 30, 2019 at 7:14 pm 1) Let’s “see” some good clear & in-focus pics of all the “things that turn” with that belt on the front of the engines.. 2) How old “Marine Age wise” are those “things that turn”– You have a coolant pump, alternator, fixed idler and spring idler………. 3) You asked about the alternator– How old is that–Total Hours and “”Marine Age” wi…
