1995 6cta. Rebuilt three years ago by maybe not the best company. It has ran great for 500 hours and the Bosch fuel injector pump had an internal meltdown. I removed the lifter pump. Lifter pump looks good but there were lots of metal shavings behind it. The internal shaft in the injector pump was a mess. The Bosch pump is now in the rebuild shop. Any thoughts on what may have caused that to fail? I donā€™t want to rebuild it and have it happen again. I had the oil analyses done and it came back perfect. Thanks

So after all the dust settled, the company did more than they had to, I’m good. They sent me a new pump. I was way out of warranty but they did more than they had to. They all but admitted fault, we all make mistakes. I still have the labor $ but it could have been worse.

Who rebuilt the motor? That might help others..

FYI– I had a new Recon from Cummins years ago that the engine itself was trashed in the first 50 hours–Cause?– Loctite chunks plugging the oil feed to the various areas in the engine….There was a lot of finger pointing until we figured it out.

It was rebuilt just before I bought it so Iā€™m guessing they went cheap. After tear down we found that they used red RTV between the engine block and the gear case. I think a gasket is recommended. Anyway, they filled the oil passage to the fuel injector pump with RTV. 100 percent restricted oil flow to pump. Bosch gets credit for making it strong enough to run 500 plus hours with zero oil lubrication. Iā€™m out of warranty and even if it was still under warranty I would have to remove it from the boat and ship it to Florida for their inspection. Iā€™m guessing Iā€™m out of luck. Looks like a $3000 pump repair and about the same in the labor. Be aware if cheap rebuilders.

Answer these questions–Be verbose if needed to explain, so I have an idea as to how to help..

“By not the best company” = ?????

Why was the engine rebuilt in the 1st place ?——–Total history of the engine before the rebuild = ?????
