    • 480CE High Fuel flow at Cruise

September 1, 2021 at 4:47 pm I just completed a survey and sea trial on a boat with twin 6CTA8.3-M (480 CE) engines. During the sea trial I had a cummins tech riding along with his laptop hooked up monitoring the engines. He said they ran good with the exception that they didn’t make full RPM. Once I got his full report, I noticed that the fuel flows during cruise were also way too high compared to the cummins power curve. Looking through Tony’s tips I learn…

February 10, 2021 at 9:48 am Hello, My starboard engine while cruising at about 2400 rmp will randomly drop about 200-300 rpms then recover right away. I have a 2002 Bayliner 3988 with twin 5.9L BTA 330hp engines with about 400 hours. I have had the boat about 6 months and it has been off and on the whole time I have had it. January 14, 2021 at 7:48 am I am not happy at all with the install.. The hose attached to the engine needs to be extended and “looped” all the way down to the stringer level and then back up the the S&B filter.. Once that is done, then cut the hose and install the bottle at the lowest practical point.. Plenty of pics of this on this web site Tony

February 28, 2020 at 12:34 pm I see and understand all of the guidance about propping the 480CE to the 450 curve, makes sense. The specific question I have goes to the fuel flow measurment technique used to see where you are relative to the 450 curve. Is it adequate to use the fuel flowrate generated by the 480CE’s ECM’s? August 8, 2019 at 8:17 am Only way to hook up a boat with 480CE engines is to source a J1708 to NMEA 2000 translator/gateway and “piggy back” the data wires that go into the back of the ED1/ED3 display. Those engines are pre-SmartCraft and have no junction boxes, etc.
