Tried to be a hero by doing simple stuff myself for the first time……but it ain’t working out as planned.

Changed my Racors last week. Finally found the secondary filters for the 480 CE’s and switched both out today. Forgot to add fuel into them before install. Still, STBD engine started. Stopped after a bit. Started again and pharted once or twice but then ran fine.

The Port engine, well no luck. Removed the new filter, filled it, spun it back on but not all the way. Pumped the primer button until fuel was running out of the filter then tightened the filter back on. Cranked it over numerous times trying to start it but she just won’t fire up. I’m at a loss. Any suggestions most welcome.

Success. Undid the fitting attached to the injector pump, loosened an injector line above, had a bud crank it over since pumpi g the primer wasn’t getting me anywhere, fuel started to spill from the fitting, then the injector line and the beast fired up.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I feel like a pro now.

Changed the oil, too her out for a WOT end of season dash and when I peeked into the bilge whn back at the dock I found a concerning amount of coolant down there. Forward end of the port side engine. Couldn’t see where its squirting from.

Somewhere in this forum I did see something on the subject.

    Be here done this.

You will need to be persistent at the primer button on engine, The first time I changed mine I had no issue, this year when I did mine, I had the same problem as you, they both started then crapped out, starboard side primed up really hard then started and stayed running.

Port side primed up good i thought then started and immediately died, I primed again for several minutes then had my mate start the engine as I was pumping and that did the trick, took 15 minutes.

You’ll get it, just stay at it.

Did exactly as prescribed but still nothing. No fuel leaking out at the injectors. Thought it would be shooting everywhere when turning the engine over. Fuel filter is definitely full. I pumped and primed and primed but…….

    Am I missing something??

    Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you have air locked that engine. Here is what I would do.

Make sure filters are full of fuel.
Pump primer pump until hard and squeaking.
Loosen a few injection lines at the injector side and crank engine with the throttle wide open and transmission in neutral. As soon as it starts coughing immediately pull throttle back to idle. Once running go to the engine and tighten the lines that are lose. The other cylinders should pick up within a minute or so.

    Start cracking injector lines.
