September 28, 2020 at 6:34 am Good day, I have had problems with insite program running the cylinder cut out diagnosis. The program simply locks the test out without any spacifics as what was the cause. I had cummings up date the origional ECM which did not solve the problem. Recently Cummins replaced the ECM with a new unit and the cylinder cut out test remains locked out. Cummins seems to be at an impasse. Anyone ever have this problem ?

    • Throttle flat spot

May 2, 2023 at 4:46 pm My QSC 8.3 has developed a intermitant flat spot when rolling power on.Ā  Suddenly rpm stops climbing. Advancing throttel further has no effect and suddenly an explosive rush of power. Happened three times in 600nm trip. Engine has 1320 hours , uses no oil and tempatures all in range. Boost pressure however varies up to 10# at constant RPM. No obvious boost leaks but suspect condensation drain might be stuck open. Could it effect boost pressure b…

May 4, 2023 at 8:43 pm A bad condensation drain could do that if indeed you are getting a 10PSI drop from the leak — Cap it for a few trips and see if that solves the issue–Remember pressures in there can beĀ  20PSI ++

    • Reman common rail injector or not

September 28, 2020 at 6:15 pm Hi All, What are the thoughts on reman QSC Bosch injectors. My local Bosch dealer has them at a bit over 1/2 the price of the new ones? My local mechanic say they haven’t seen a successful common rail reman done locally and suggested new. cheers Luke

September 29, 2020 at 6:11 pm My experience has been that Cummins RECON injectors are “as new”.. As to buying rebuilt injectors from another source, no experience doing that, but that alone would not deter me from buying them from a well established aftermarket source if the $$ was a major factor.

    • Cylinder cut out test locked out

August 27, 2020 at 8:10 am I have a head scratcher issue here. Qsc 8.3 has a miss at rpm above 1200. Had Cummins diagnose with insite program but cylinder cut out test is locked out. No explanation on why. Engine at temp but no good. Cummins tested ECM and brought up to date with latest cals. Still nothing. Engineering analyzed raw data and found instability in rail pressure realitive for ECM requests. Changed pressure actuator and engine became smoother but produced whit…

August 29, 2020 at 9:37 am Single or twin engine boat? If twin and the other engine runs good, then start swapping things. ECM 1st. If not, then you do not have much of choice that to decide what to start with–ECM, injectors, another NEW Fuel actuator ( we have seen a 50% ++ failure rate on the last 10 new engines start-ups engine lately). Researching this after really getting pissed off turned up that this goes back a few years. Some bad batches out there. If t…

May 11, 2019 at 4:58 am I have noticed some advocate removal of the four rubber vanes that run the length of the aftercooler core. Does anyone know why this practice is recommended?

May 12, 2019 at 6:33 pm Just an IMO——Silicone strips on aftercooler cores… — Just a “dream” that does not work in field service .. That is what matters, not what’s in the paper engineering and what could happen in a test cell environment under very controlled conditions………… Tony

May 10, 2019 at 7:28 pm Fellas I need a little assistance. I ordered the Super 26’s from here https://www.sbmar.com/product/super-26-impeller-cummins-qsc/ and in great anticipation of changing them today, I took the cover plate off one pump and I was surprised to see they do not look the same. The ones I have currently are threaded. Good news is, all splines were all intact. Anyone know what’s up? I’m including pics of my current impellers and pump h…

May 11, 2019 at 11:15 am Thanks Phil, I considered pulling it. I’m going to go pick up a 25 cent bolt at home depot. I plan on spraying some Kroil on it and bump the engine once or twice to loosen it up. I also have some Metalube on hand so plan to use that on the new ones. It was the threads that through me off when I saw them. It all makes sense now. This forum and you guys have been a life saver and have saved tons of $$$ doing this stuff myself. Thanks guys!
