    Good day,
I have had problems with insite program running the cylinder cut out diagnosis. The program simply locks the test out without any spacifics as what was the cause.

I had cummings up date the origional ECM which did not solve the problem. Recently Cummins replaced the ECM with a new unit and the cylinder cut out test remains locked out.

Cummins seems to be at an impasse. Anyone ever have this problem ?

    Cummins INLINE works great

New Cummins engine diagnostic tool Cummins INLINE 7 Data Link Adapter has a faster processor, more robust algorithms, larger memory buffers and more sophisticated filtering than previous models while simultaneously accessing multiple vehicle data channels. INLINE 7 supports USB, WiFi and Bluetooth technologies in a single device. INLINE 7 communicates with your PC and is designed for future capability with mobile products.

Im giving serious consideration to adding your smx instrument pack. I noticed a refeeance to identifying the version of smart craft.

Is there a clear identifier ?

Thank you Cory, good information. I have a single qqsc 8.3 and cummins branded glendening control head. That doesent mean there is some gremlin causing the ECM to have complications.

Do you know if the engine can be operated with the SIM disconnected. It could be a good test to see if insite was able to run cylinder lock out test.

    Thanks for your interest.

The SIM mostly translates data from the J1939 bus but it also has the ability to read/write information to and from the ECM. Boats with C-Cruise and a multiplexing module communicate to and from the ECM to manage engine SYNC, Cruise, and idle manipulation to and from the engine computer. It is a very complex and heavily integrated system… when something goes wrong… it GOES WRONG.

    Smart crap

Thanks for the reply. Good analogy for the confusing comms. Do i understand correctly that the sim and smart crap display some how is influencing the ECM functionally.

I was under the impression that the SIM was reciving engine data and sending it along to the display.

Does the SIM interact with the ECM other than in a read only way ?

Thanks….been chasing this ghost for months.

    Mercury SmartCrap issues

It’s not your ECM….It’s what Mercury’s Smartcrap does to it……………….Dump it and go native J-1939 ( your ECM ‘s parent language) and your issues go away….Luckily that language is intact and 100% solid inside your ECM………………… Cat JD, MAN, Scania, Detroit, MTU, and now Cummins, along every other engine manufacturer I have heard of rely on that protocol………….. Could they all be wrong?

Think of Mercury Smartcraft as taking well read world class English novel, letting some computer nerd convert it to Chinese and then ask a school trained Russian interpreter to turn in back into that written English novel……IMO, that’s what you are dealing with…Thing maybe something was lost in the translation?……………..Even Cummins has walked away from it ( quite a few years ago now) ………………………..All I can say with your techs working on the issue, good luck..

Its a smart craft system. Cummins has advised me that my engine’s base code does not support tthe cylinder cut out test function. No reason given as to why. They are writing a custom program to support the cut out test. I’m surprised that there would be ecm that would not support
The cut out test. Can the mercury smart crap SIM be interfearing ? Engine was built in 2004.

Are you trying to sort out an engine with Mercury Smartcrap electronics or are you on the base SAE J-1939 your ECM communicates with?
