April 21, 2024 at 4:47 pm New installation of additional alternator onto 4BT for charging house battery bank. 4 BT (155hp version) – 12v electrical system Balmar 94 series (24v /Ā 130amp) Balmar MC-624 regulator The regulator requires either 12v or 24v Ignition input / switched power source. Any tips on where would be the best connection source? I am away from the vessel and trying to get it connected and wired by a layman prior to the sparky doing final check and …
1 ReplyApril 25, 2024 at 8:36 pm Looks like the fuel shut0of solenoid has a purple or red wire to activate it when igntion on. Plan to use that to provide ignition power to regulator.

Idle speed for 6CTA8.3M3
This topic has 1 reply, has 2 voices, and was last updated by 1 week ago
April 19, 2024 at 11:11 am My, new to me, boat is a year 2000 and the engines have about 750 hours on them. Ā They idle around 500 RPM in neutral. Ā When shifted into reverse, the idle speed drops down to 430-450 RPM and one or the other engines have died during docking. I have looked around, but been unable to find, what the proper idle speed setting should be and whether that speed should be with the transmissions engaged or in neutral. Ā Can anyone give me a little advise…
1 ReplyApril 19, 2024 at 11:59 am We have 6CTA 8.3 M4’s and they idle around 590 and are rough when shifting.Ā So I have yet to figure out how to adjust the idle up so what I do is fire the engines and use the throttle sticks to set the rpm to 650 on both and they shift smoothly and that gives good thrust around the dock without being “jerky”.Ā We are a 2005 Sea Ray 460 Dancer and we are some where in the 34K range for weight/displacement.Ā Also we have 250watt…

April 18, 2024 at 9:46 pm Hi, I just completed a complete cleaning of a rusty coolant system, rebuilt the turbos while at it, and a lot of other stuff.Ā I noticed when running again near idle one of the tensioners is vibrating visibly (maybe 1/4″).Ā This engine also has more vibration visible on it from the coolant reservoir for example.Ā Ā I replaced the tensioner and idler (not upgraded idler, next time) last year (50 hrs since) with OEM parts and so not sure what…

April 18, 2024 at 2:09 pm I drained 7 .5 gallons out to fix small leak at base of thermostat and therefore replaced thermostat, filled back 5.5 gallons. do I need to bleed air out of the system or just start it up then check and add? should I fill overflow before running engine? thanks Paul
2 RepliesApril 18, 2024 at 4:26 pm I had to drain 6 gallons to re seal the large banjo fitting on the turbo. Anyway, got the last gallon in by running the engine, letting it cool and topping the tank off. Took a couple times

QSC 8.3 aftercooler.

April 18, 2024 at 7:36 am I am replacing my aftercooler for the second time in 7 years. I have done a fresh water maintenance flush through the sea strainers 2 times each season which is usually 100 hours per season. Ā Why would my aftercooler be crashing in such short time. Is there a better maintenance program or product I should be using?

April 17, 2024 at 3:12 pm Hello, I’m experiencing a few issues with my cummins qsm11 generator.Ā I’ve replaced multiple items all filters, fluids, HP fuel pump and mini filter, and all 6 injectors but for some reason my rpms dont want to sit at 1800rpms which is what it needs to be set to.Ā Prior to an electrical load it will be right at 1800 and then once it takes the load it drops to 1790-1780 rpms.Ā The Fuel pump had a leak from the weap hole that is why i…

rust in coolant tank 6bta370

April 17, 2024 at 8:39 am I found light rust in my coolant tank, under the fill/cap lip,the best way to clean? And is there a recommended coolant?(looks like green auto coolant in tank) I have done the after cooler w/ sbmar kit, fuel cooler delete kit, will look at my heat exchanger today. Thanks for any input.
1 ReplyApril 18, 2024 at 9:39 pm Glad you found only light rust, I had the same issue.Ā Spent the last couple of months cleaning everything up.Ā I suggest if you take anything apart considering flushing the rusty coolant BEFORE taking the engine apart, that way you don’t end up with rusty water staining everything. If it’s only light rust I would just flush it till it’s clean a few times (cummins manual says use baking soda) and then fill it with coolant and r…

Oil Leak at turbo after installing CCV system
This topic has 6 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated by 6 days ago
April 16, 2024 at 2:16 pm Hello, I just recently purchased an Enviro Crankcase ventilation kit. After installing my Cummins 370 developed an oil leak (slobber) at the opposite side of the turbo from the air cleaner. The air cleaner itself also shows of some oil saturation. Is this a normal effect from the ccv? Everything else seems perfect, lots less smoke after hours of trolling also. Thanks for any advice.Ā
6 RepliesApril 21, 2024 at 11:59 am 12 quarts cold at dock. Engine previously vented from the vent tube directly into the bilge via a short hose. Never have removed the air side for a good cleaning.Ā Tony, thanks a bunch for taking a look at it. Seems from above conversation just may need to pull the turbo and take it in for service. I was thinking a seal, but have little knowledge of the units inner workings.

5 RepliesApril 18, 2024 at 1:31 pm Hi, i would recommend having a mobile machinist (unless you are good at cutting a thread in the block) come out and thread the block so that you can cap off the hole and then install Tony’s kit. April 14, 2024 at 11:31 am I received the T from sbmar and it has a 3/4 inch straight thread. I have a bronz pipe thread adapter. The bronze fitting seems to bottom out and i am unsure it will maintain the seal. Should i give it a try or should i try to find a straight thread bronze fitting with an o ring?
