    • Idle speed for 6CTA8.3M3

April 19, 2024 at 11:11 am My, new to me, boat is a year 2000 and the engines have about 750 hours on them. Ā They idle around 500 RPM in neutral. Ā When shifted into reverse, the idle speed drops down to 430-450 RPM and one or the other engines have died during docking. I have looked around, but been unable to find, what the proper idle speed setting should be and whether that speed should be with the transmissions engaged or in neutral. Ā Can anyone give me a little advise…

April 19, 2024 at 11:59 am We have 6CTA 8.3 M4’s and they idle around 590 and are rough when shifting.Ā  So I have yet to figure out how to adjust the idle up so what I do is fire the engines and use the throttle sticks to set the rpm to 650 on both and they shift smoothly and that gives good thrust around the dock without being “jerky”.Ā  We are a 2005 Sea Ray 460 Dancer and we are some where in the 34K range for weight/displacement.Ā  Also we have 250watt…

If it’s only light rust I would just flush it till it’s clean a few times (cummins manual says use baking soda) and then fill it with coolant and r…

    • Oil Leak at turbo after installing CCV system

This topic has 6 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated byRon Harmon 6 days ago

April 16, 2024 at 2:16 pm Hello, I just recently purchased an Enviro Crankcase ventilation kit. After installing my Cummins 370 developed an oil leak (slobber) at the opposite side of the turbo from the air cleaner. The air cleaner itself also shows of some oil saturation. Is this a normal effect from the ccv? Everything else seems perfect, lots less smoke after hours of trolling also. Thanks for any advice.Ā

Never have removed the air side for a good cleaning.Ā    Tony, thanks a bunch for taking a look at it. Seems from above conversation just may need to pull the turbo and take it in for service. I was thinking a seal, but have little knowledge of the units inner workings.
