    • 480ce fuel burn difference between engines

This topic has 6 replies, has 5 voices, and was last updated byMatt G 1 year ago

June 20, 2022 at 8:17 pm 2005 Sea Ray 420. Getting a fuel burn of around 14.5 gallons at 2200 on one side and 13.7 on the other. I also noticed the side with the higher burn rate runs a coolant temp of 165 vs the other side at 158. What can I check to see if one is too much or one is not burning enough fuel. Motors are 480ce. Just purchased the boat so upon testing this is what I found. Thanks.Ā

July 11, 2022 at 6:59 pm The guy i bought the boat from did that last year. He bought used the boat 4 years and that was the last time the coolers were serviced. I am going to do all the coolers in September. I am more concerned with the fuel burn difference.Ā

    • QSB 6.7 After cooler Flush

September 20, 2019 at 12:47 pm My engine has about 350 hours and 2 1/2 seasons of use. I want to do the Barnacle Buster flush before I haul out for the season here in the Northeast(NH Seacoast). Many good points on this forum. I will be using the groco replacement cover for the in flow. I plan to remove the exhaust hose at the heat exchanger. My question is will that hose remove easily without damage and go back easily?

February 1, 2021 at 4:40 pm Core only slides out aft. Aluminum retainer ring slides off forward end. Cummins part number for end caps has been superseded for a new design. Using these bronze caps seems to be the best option. Five years old and 600 hours, It really needed this service…..lots of corrosion starting. I will hack saw the old cap to retrieve the bolt.

January 13, 2019 at 1:55 pm That is a slick set up. Well done. Dan wrote: Patrick wrote: Did you plumb a permanent adapter to hook a garden hose too? Through a tee on the intake side of the raw water strainer (blue valve in picture attached) that is connected to a distribution manifold that both engines, air con, live well pumps, wash down pumps and the generator are fed through a water hookup on deck, I can flush all with the garden hose or the onboard freshwater suppl…

    • QSB 5.9 ZF80 Shutdown at speed

February 15, 2017 at 4:13 pm I was half way to Catalina on my Tiara when the starboard prop wrapped up a semi submerged heavy duty line. Probably fell off of a commercial vessel. I was at 2250 RPMs at about 23knots. Engine stalled fast and hard with a loud bang. Ā It did not slowly come to a stop. So far the prop, shaft, and strut are bent. The shipyard is removing the transmission to check the coupler between the engine and transmission. Ā Should have an answer back after th…

April 11, 2017 at 8:01 pm Sea Trial went real well. After having both props balanced and the starboard driveline essentially replaced, the boat runs noticeably smoother with less vibration. Overall I am pleased that my Tiara is back on the water running great. Thanks for all of the suggestions. Most were spot on!

    • ZF80A-1.6 Fluid Change

December 29, 2016 at 6:52 pm Hello all! Great forum you have here. Thought I’d ask if there was any tricks to changing the fluid in my ZF gear box. This is my first time. My understanding is: Warm up first, remove filter cover and filter, suck out old fluid through dip stick hole. Clean filter screen and replace same amount of fluid extracted with new Dextron III ATF. Check levels after brief run Here are some pics of my engine room and running gauge readings on the s…

December 30, 2016 at 7:32 pm The job was fairly easy after realizing the best suction hose access to the bottom of the gear case is through the filter hole. Ā The gears get in the way trying to snake the hose down the dipstick hole. Thank again. -Patrick

    • QSM-11 Initial Ignition of Engine

November 9, 2016 at 9:31 am I have 2003 QSM-11 with pretty low hours. When I first turn on the main power to the engine, then turn the key on and wait for its testing routine. I then press the start button, it start then immediately cuts out. If I leave the main power on but turn off the engine and let it sit for a week or so I’ll have the same problem. I then go to the main power for the engine, turn it off, then turn the power and the key back on, wait for the test…

November 15, 2016 at 6:49 pm Before getting carried away, try replacing the ignition rectifier behind the helm station. Ā No guarantees, but a cheap part to replace known to create odd starting issues. Ā I had odd ignition issues on a 2006 QSB 5.9 that were solved when I replaced the rectifier and verified the connections were good.
