    • ZF 220 housing crack

April 23, 2024 at 6:56 pm ZF 220 A gearboxes were pulled apart for bearing and seal replacement while the engines were rebuilt and an internal crack was noted in one of the housings, refer attached photos. It appears that the crack has propagated from a pilot pressure hole, does anyone have a flow diagram for the ZF 220 so I can figure out what caused the crack. I am thinking of using a rotary burr to open up the crack and TIG welding it back together then redrilling the…

April 25, 2024 at 1:23 am Will be back at the boat next week Tony, will snap some high rez pics and post them. Am wondering what regulates the high pressure that the gearbox uses to lower pressure for bearing lubrication.

March 2, 2024 at 5:26 pm Have pulled both 6BTA engines for a general overhaul due to blowby. While researching rebuild kits I found that there are Machined conrods before 2003 and Fractured conrods after. What is the actual difference between the rods and how to check what I have? Engine serial numbers are 44548566 and 44558483

March 3, 2024 at 9:57 am I have only seen “fractured” rods on B series engines.. That means the rod caps cannot be mixed up, reversed, etc .   When to take them off, you can see it as the surfaces are irregular.

December 20, 2023 at 7:53 pm Just completed a 2,000 Nm trip from Malaysia to East Java and had a barely noticeable RPM surge on the starboard engine 3 times over 10 hours. RPMs were app. 1200 with EGT around 600 F and everything else seemed okay on instruments, there was an audible rpm increase for a second or so which I did not see on the SMX digital displays, this also occurred the previous day except I only noticed it twice over 10 hours. Gauges on fuel filters were in t…

    • Air Ventilation – 6BTA JWAC

This topic has 6 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated byTony Athens 3 years ago

August 21, 2020 at 1:37 am Am trying to find some information on air requirements for 250 HP 6BTA JWAC engines. Current air intake uses 2 off 6 slot aftermarket stainless vents on the port and starboard sides. Each slot has 3″ x 1/2″ opening = 1.5″sq x 6 = 9″sq for each vent. 2 off vents provide 18″ open area for each engine. Will be adding another vent to give a total of 27″sq open area for each engine. Also, have 2 off 6″ centri…

August 23, 2020 at 6:24 pm Do your best———————————————-Get what you can get “sq inches wise”, but balance water spray as a major thing you MUST deal with..
