Thanks Tony. I do not have boost gauges so will need to install them. I do know that at the 3000 rpm range, my EGT is around 840 degrees. Boat is now out of the water for the season but that will be done next spring.

I have been reading and following along here. I have the same motors in a 37″ SeaRay EC boat. I understand that I should be reaching 3,150 RPM’s which I do. My question (because I repowered the boat from original gas motors) is; Is there any other way of knowing that I am under-propped, short of swapping props and doing sea trials? While the boat seems to move along fairly well at a max RPM speed of 35 mph, I wonder if I might still be able to add a little cup or pitch and gain just a bit more speed? Of course I still want to maintain my max RPM’s of 3,150. Is it either better or worse on the engines if a boat is slightly under-propped?

Tony, would you recommend the 160 thermostats for a boat that spends 3/4’s of it’s running time at a 600 RPM idle? I’d also add that this is on lake Michigan where water temps rarely reach 70 degrees.

I’d greatly appreciate the guidance and will post on how it goes. Please keep the guidance relatively simple as I am much more a fisherman and much less a mechanic.

    Tony,

A fiberglass boat, a 37′ SeaRay. The stringers looked wimpy to me so I added 3/4″ of plywood that was glassed in, transom to forward engine room bulkhead. Mounts are 1/2″ aluminum “L” channel with 1/2″ backing to sandwich the top of the stringers, each bracket being 12″ long. I used new Barry mounts I got from Cummins. Sorry, no pictures, my phone dropped and ceased working today!

After more internet search time, I may have found the answer to my question. Groco offers a 6 way fuel valve that offers the ability to change tanks for both the supply and the return sides simultaneously. This valve is available in a couple different sizes so I am still interested to hear what size I should use.
