6 bta air heater question

June 19, 2018 at 3:40 pm Have just recently repowered with 6bta’s. My port engine starts and runs well, with very little smoke after initial startup. The starboard engine is hard starting, needing me to cycle the air grid heater on and off for two to three cycles before it will start. I know it is working as I see the voltage drop and can hear the clicking sound of what I would guess to be the relay. Once started it smokes excessively with white smoke. After…

Transmission Clearance to Hull

May 12, 2018 at 8:10 pm I am currently in the middle of a repower project. In order to get good shaft alignment, I need to have the engine sitting low in the boat, with the corner of the ZF220A only clearing the bottom of the boat by about 3/8″ on the outboard side. Is this too close? Is there a rule of thumb or a standard for this? Appreciate any input. -Mike-
2 RepliesMay 14, 2018 at 9:01 pm Tony, A fiberglass boat, a 37′ SeaRay. The stringers looked wimpy to me so I added 3/4″ of plywood that was glassed in, transom to forward engine room bulkhead. Mounts are 1/2″ aluminum “L” channel with 1/2″ backing to sandwich the top of the stringers, each bracket being 12″ long. I used new Barry mounts I got from Cummins. Sorry, no pictures, my phone dropped and ceased working today!

April 12, 2018 at 3:25 pm I am in the process of repowering a gas boat to Cummins 370’s. The boat has two tanks, one on the outboard side of each engine. The existing plumbing utilizes a manifold system so that either tank can supply either engine. I like being able to occasionally switch from one tank to the other in order to maintain equal amounts of fuel in each tank. I realize I will need to make a new manifold system that can handle more fuel flow. My tho…
