January 20, 2018 at 9:53 am I’m looking at a 2003 43 sportfisher with 480CEs 4400 hours. Owner states the hours have been 96 percent 10kts or less traveling to baja and back. He also states that fact can be proven from digital logs. Receipts and logs look like the maintenance has been done. Port aftercooler was replaced last year and starboard was removed and cleaned a at the same time. I know it’s impossible to answer with the information I have………

That fact that she made governor speed prior to re-pitch and with only 350 hours and things now made right she “should” be okay going forward but, as you know, there is no way to know 100%.

November 27, 2018 at 1:47 pm I am currently on the Great Loop and made a the 175 mile trip across the Gulf Of Mexico. When I looked into the bilge for my daily check I was surprised to see my starboard serpentine belt was shredding, it didn’t break (thank goodness) it looks like about 3 or for ribs were shredding. Effectively the belt was narrower. I replaced the belt with a spare, but I am sure there is more to this. The alignment looks good, no noise from any pu…

November 28, 2018 at 7:15 pm Good call, but also replace the fixed idler–You need to start FRESH with those “original parts” that are now as old as my grandson but have lived in a much worse environment.. .. While you are at it, take a tooth brush and a can of spray brake cleaner ( Autozone or ?) and clean all the grooves thoroughly in the main crankshaft serpentine pulley. It takes about 15-30 minutes to do it right.. Start FRESH……….…

September 6, 2017 at 4:07 pm Let me first say I didn’t realize Tony was not participating with Boat Diesel……I posted this question there, Tony did answer an email I sent him, thought we had my issue solved by replacing thermostat. But it is not….. The temps are very erratic, took the bottom hose of the after cooler and found about 60% of an impeller(see pic 40% left, where??) my marina changed, they are jiffy lube mechanics, they never flushed out …

June 11, 2017 at 6:37 am We went for our first run on Saturday, Ran for about 8 miles at 700 rpm, boat ran fine. When I went to power up the starboard engine would not power up past 1400 rpm. Rough running and white smoke. After a few minutes I tried again and it was able to get on plane, ran for about 10 more miles at 2100 rpm, all is well. Docked the boat for a few hours, ran back to marina at 2100 no problems, went back to 700 rpm for a few miles, tried to plane the …

June 11, 2017 at 7:32 am Yes it was the first run after winter layup. I store my boat in heated storage, the fuel tanks were 95% full, and diesel stabilizer was put in them. re-Commissioning consisted of changing oil and filters, but did not change fuel filters. The filters have approximately 3000+ gal of fuel run through them. As I said ran fine at low speed, only when I power up the starboard motor will not go past 13k or 14k and there is whitish smoke. Even in ne…
