December 9, 2019 at 2:23 pm Iā€™m in process of deleting fuel block and cooler and following advice from ā€œTonyā€™s Tipsā€ and also have reviewed the YouTube video. I am confused regarding the use of multiple fittings (5) for reconnecting the 1/2ā€supply and 3/8ā€ return lines. The Cummins original set up is with reusable face seal fittings. Why not use one each of the existing 1/2ā€ 45deg (supply) and 3/8ā€ straight (return) fittings? These fittings are very easily removed from or…

October 26, 2022 at 6:00 am I am looking for comments on the exhaust architecture on a Sabre 42 with QSB engines and Zeus Pods. The DeAngelo stainless elbows have been suffering premature cracks at the welds. The attached pictures show the elbow leaving the exhaust flange, turning down 120 degrees. A 6″ long hump hose is attached. On the other end of the hump hose is a 6′ FRP tube that runs to the exhaust outlet on the pod. A ‘strap type’ stanchion …

July 6, 2022 at 9:31 am Our boat has a Cummins 6CTA 8.3. Ā I’m replacing the coolant hoses and find I’m having difficulty installing the turbo coolant drain tube hose (P/N: Ā HS 0049). Ā The close proximity of the destination for either end of this 90Āŗ formed hose, namely the barbed nipple from the turbo to the coolant tube leading to the engine block, makes the installation difficult without further dismantling of the engine. July 7, 2022 at 5:39 pm Yes, itā€™s challenging. Ā The two pipe ends are very close together. Ā Iā€™ve done several of these. A couple times I managed to work it in. Ā Once I got it on by actually cutting off one of the ends of the hose a bit to shorten it. Ā Other times I ended up removing the banjo bolt. Ā But that will require two new coper banjo washers and some Tru Blu to reconnect the banjo after slipping the new hose on. Ā

July 10, 2021 at 9:22 am My 2010 QSB 5.9 gear oil cooler did not have sacrificial zincs. My friends 6.7 engine did and until he started fresh water flushing he ate the little zincs constantly and found all manner of zinc debris on intake side of cooler. Recently at 9 years I proactively replaced my gear oil cooler with a model that had options for 2 zincs one at either end. December 21, 2021 at 2:35 pm Crested a tool out of necessity to remove stubborn 6CTA aftercooler cores and to put the spring back in heat exchanger endcaps. Buy a 4ā€ pvc coupler. Itā€™ll be a tad too big for the aftercooler housing. Use a circular saw or mitre saw or table saw and make one pass through it. Now when you squeeze it together itā€™s the perfect diameter if you need to use force with a block of wood to drive the aftercooler core through until the ends clear the …

    • 1st time seawater impeller change

April 6, 2017 at 10:49 am Ā Newbie on the site with a still new to us boat. Ā This weekend I plan to change the seawater impeller on our 6BTA5.9 M3. Ā I understand the basic concepts but would appreciate any suggestions. I noticed that the bore of the new impeller is threaded on one end. Ā “Assuming” that the installed impeller is the same will a bolt to match those threads work as a puller? Thanks in advance for all replies.

May 5, 2021 at 7:08 pm Couple tips to add: If the keyway is at 12 o’clock when you pull the impeller, the key should stay in the pump housing and not fall out. You can turn the ignition key briefly and spin the pump until you get it facing the right direction. For pulling, snap-on part CJ83-3 (around $30) fits the threads and is an excellent puller. I used a hacksaw to cut the unthreaded 1/4″ section off right where the threads start so it can easily threa…

It comes for a few seconds then goes away for a few seconds. If I increase the rpm from 2600 to 2650 I can almost make it go away. So far I haul…

It was the right inside diameter to push the clip down until it snapped into its shaft groove.

July 31, 2020 at 9:13 am I trying to resolve a issue with black smoke coming from both engines on my 2001 Sea Ray Sedan bridge. I don’t have loss of power. I put Seafoam in my tank due to leaving my boat during the summer months and return during the winter. At first I thought I had an injector issue but after reading your form I might be wrong. I have checked my air filters and they are clean. I am at my witts end.

August 20, 2020 at 6:03 pm I have same boat, same year, same engines. I recently had DeAngelo Marine exhaust build me new mixing elbows out of INCONEL. I don’t recommend you run the new turbos until you replace the mixers. The inside of the turbine housing will build up rust scale fairly quickly. I learned this the hard way after I ran one of my rebuilt turbos on the old pinhole elbow for a couple of years.
