May 10, 2021 at 12:59 pm hi, I know this is not the first tread about oil service on a ZF 220A.:) It`s a twin installation. Cummins 6bta m2 300hp 1990. I`ve read this one aswell: Checking & Changing the Oil on your ZF Marine Transmission I`m still a bit confused.. The service manual says the oil level has to checked with running engine and neutral selector (gear) “overfill” if necessary. Oil level on my gear box is over max level. (cold engine, not ru…

May 26, 2021 at 7:17 pm I had a recent experience where the port side transmission was a lot hotter than the starboard side. I do not have a temp or pressure gauge on these so I’m unsure of exact temp. The engine temp was steady and normal. I have removed the oil cooler and am in the process of cleaning and reinstalling. I also plan to change the oil. I would like to understand what is needed to add a temp and pressure gauge as well. Not sure where the best loca…

I have mechanical engine and gear controls. My guess is you will need a separate lever and cable for the trolling valve and a separate controller to take the cable controls to an electronic signal. The Glendinning works the same but opposite. I have one electronic control that handle…

May 10, 2021 at 7:39 am Iā€™m stumped I get a constant beep when in gear at rpm 1100 to 1500. In neutral, no beep. If Iā€™m in gear and at 1500 and itā€™s beeping, I just put it down to idle and beep goes away I thought it was my engine but in neutral there is no beep at any rpm. But in fwd or reverse it does beep. Keep in mind, it all works great and engine runs perfect at any rpm. I can cruise at say 2500 Rpm and all is fine. No slipping, no odd noises etc. shifts fine. …

April 29, 2021 at 7:24 pm I was wondering if you could steer me in the right direction. Had a trans cooler fail 20 minutes into the season. Salt water in the trans. I flushed it twice that day with ATF, got a new cooler installed a couple days later and flushed more times until ATF coming out looked like what went in. Boat was slipping in F and R (at dock). Bought a mechanical gauge and saw pressure was 330 psi in N, and dropping down to almost nothing in F and R. T…

April 26, 2021 at 8:25 am Presently running a 6BTA 250hp cummins in a workboat. It has a velvet drive 2.5:1 gear. I’m looking to upgrade the gear to something more robust. I’ve seen a few MG506/507s around. I’ve been advised that these might be a good candidate for replacement. Most likely the boat will need a new shaft to make up the different case measurements. Lots on them still around and both are easy to rebuild as gears go as long as the gear is in “still working condition” and is not a total rust bucket. With that said, the MG507 would not be an easy gear to adapt to any B series Cummins ( clearance issues with the turbo and possibly other things). From experience, th…

August 25, 2019 at 3:51 pm After the engine has been used for a while, and placing the vessel in neutral the boat creeps forward. It does not creep as if it was in gear at idle, much slower, but still goes forward. We have an electronic shifter. I did see a wire labeled Reverse Gear not attached, but I do not see where this might go. I do not have a wiring Schematic. Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated. Thank You Barry
