Cummins Marine Diesel Repower Specialists Forums Marine Transmissions ZF 220 TRANSMISSION – Neutral still creeps ahead

After the engine has been used for a while, and placing the vessel in neutral the boat creeps forward. It does not creep as if it was in gear at idle, much slower, but still goes forward.

We have an electronic shifter. I did see a wire labeled Reverse Gear not attached, but I do not see where this might go. I do not have a wiring Schematic.

Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated.

    Thank You

    Barry

    Dave,
It can be TIGHT especially if it’s your first time – bring a beaker bar.

suction filter wrench size ZF 220

    Hi Tony –
I guess never mind! I found a note by Rob that it is a 36mm socket, with the chamfer ground off.
    Forum is a great tool.
    Thanks!

suction filter wrench size ZF 220

    Hi Tony –
Just installed your ZF oil change kit – added one more 90° elbow to make it smoother run (for me). I’m getting too old for contortions.
What is the socket size that is needed to remove the suction filter? I need to buy one and that would be helpful info, since it’s a trek to the boat.
The oil was nice and clean but the suction filter cap still has factory paint, so this will be its first check in 2500 hrs (I’m the third owner).
    Thank you!
    Dave

Have you “looked at the prop shaft” during “this mode” and see that it is indeed rotating forward?

Last time you changed the oil?

Last time you removed the suction screen filter and cleaned it?

Post a clear and in-focus picture on the transmission showing all.

    Tony
