November 7, 2022 at 9:21 pm Hi, I had the same problem on my qsb6.7, started intermittently then a hard fault, turned out to be the cable from the engine to the helm ie to that switch panel, Cummins supplied a new 10 meter cable under warranty.

February 24, 2021 at 9:56 am Blue Sea Systems has a nice wire size calculator: http://circuitwizard.bluesea.com/# 40 feet is pushing the limits. the calculator shows 445 amps max at 10% drop. My 6CTA8.3 draws around 500amps at start. (plus 190 amps for the grid heater, which may be on a separate conductor) most likely it would work, but closer is much better. Hope this helps

May 15, 2020 at 3:15 am Wondering where the best spot for battery ground wire on QSB 6.7. Also what size wire is recommended for ground and positive side. I have a 31 series for my start battery. Positive run less that 3′ negative length will be determined where I ground to engine.

December 23, 2019 at 9:33 am Same here as Bill D – repowered in 2001 to include the Buck style bronze “squid screens” and no internal basket strainers. Zero issues. Simplifies and saves space in the engine room. https://www.sbmar.com/articles/thru-hull-screens-outside-strainers-or-squid-screens/

March 17, 2019 at 8:27 am My vote would lean towards a QSB 6.7———The Rating you choose would be dependent upon your application, and your need to WOT speed on “show & tell day” vs. your needed cruise speed after the dust settles……….Regardless what what anyone else tells you, realistic or “usable” long range cruise speed making 30-100 miles runs is limited to about 16-17 GPH ( meaning about 350 HP).. That …

March 13, 2019 at 2:56 pm I would think one of the higher HP QSB’s, possibly the 6.7, would be right. As to laying out the entire drivetrain (gear model, ratio, shaft dia and prop specs) that’s Tony’s forte……
