October 12, 2022 at 12:36 pm We’ve had boat for 4 years. Getting around to short list on maintenance. Last item- replacing bolts on turbo outlet to exhaust elbow.Ā  I’ve soaked the bolts for 4 days now with PB Blaster. Bought a Proto 6 point 10mm “long” combination wrench. Tried with modest force double wrenching the easiest bolt (11 o’clock position) with no movement.Ā  I’m a little disappointed in the wrench “fit” on the hex h…

When I turned the port Key off on the port engine no affect. When I depressed Starboard kill button both engines shutdown. On turn…

July 29, 2022 at 2:12 pm Glendinning has great customer support and is one of the main reasons we sell their products. John Glendinning has been in my shop twice in the last few years and he is totally “hands-on” with all they sell.. ThatĀ  says volumes to me.Ā  Ā  Ā  BTW, this was a good experience to share on the forums as it helpedĀ  me and will may help others down the road.Ā  Thanks. Ā  Ā  Tony

April 2, 2021 at 4:49 am Cummins, 5.9QSB Jacket Cooler end plate gaskets were gooey. They were not leaking externally. Installed 2 years ago (800 hours). Jacket Cooler appears to be mostly(95%) clear. Zinc replaced last year still about 90% intact. Opened after cooler on stbd engine after cooler, it was pretty salty on bottom(inlet) end tube sheet. Havenā€™t got to Port Engine aftercooler yet. Cooler bundle cleaned with “Barnacle Buster” Operating jacket te…

April 3, 2021 at 6:53 am Old ones were from SB Mar and installed in Feb 2019. I ordered new ones from the SBMAR site a few days ago (SKU: HX-GK5KIT). I’ll plan on doing them with the zincs annually. As previously mentioned they weren’t leaking and performance was normal. I just wasn’t sure if I was having something weird going on. Thought the “Barnacle Buster” chem might have softened them up from the last time a circulated the cleaner in …

    • Transmission cooler seawater plugs

This topic has 2 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated byRobert McManus 4 years ago

April 10, 2020 at 12:31 pm Owned my 2009 boat for approaching 2 years. It has twin Cummins QSB5.9 engines with ZF85A transmissions. I was checking the transmission fluid coolers the other day. There are four 1/8″ NPT plugs, one on the bottom and one on the top on each end of the seawater side of the tranny cooler. Inspecting the two TOP plugs they appeared to have never been removed. When removed they appeared to be in “new” condition. When I removed the…

February 24, 2019 at 8:00 am On the Cummins QuickServe site parts list for my 5.9 -380HP engine, (engine serial number 46892137) it list the part number for item “40- heat exchanger gasket” as 3975187. On your site it shows as (https://www.sbmar.com/product/5-cummins-qsb-5-9-380-hp-and-below-heat-exchanger-kit/) 3910343. Are these numbers effectively for the same part?

    • Aftercooler Seawater side scale- how clean is clean?

This topic has 4 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated byjohn 5 years ago

February 16, 2019 at 9:39 am We have had the boat for one year. Bought it with 900 hours on 380hp QSB engines. Up to 1100 hrs now so we pulled starboard engine aftercooler to do clean and check, replace zincs, seals, etc. Found some scale on seawater outlet side(bottom) of tube core. We soaked core tubes for about an hour in 1:10 mix of CLR and water. Cleaned up and rodded tubes with an aluminum rod and copper brush (for a 9mm firearm). All tubes clear but there is stil…

February 25, 2019 at 5:44 pm I use Castrol purple degreaser on the air side of the aftercooler to degrease it. Multiple times if they are sludged up. Then a little dawn soap. And pressure wash with a fan tip.
