Cummins, 5.9QSB Jacket Cooler end plate gaskets were gooey. They were not leaking externally.

Installed 2 years ago (800 hours). Jacket Cooler appears to be mostly(95%) clear. Zinc replaced last year still about 90% intact.

Opened after cooler on stbd engine after cooler, it was pretty salty on bottom(inlet) end tube sheet. Havenā€™t got to Port Engine aftercooler yet. Cooler bundle cleaned with “Barnacle Buster”

Operating jacket temps on display panel have always ramped up slowly to normal and maintained T stat ~172F temp.

Wasnā€™t sure if the condition of the gaskets was normal for age or were showing something is wrong.

    thanks for reply

Old ones were from SB Mar and installed in Feb 2019. I ordered new ones from the SBMAR site a few days ago (SKU: HX-GK5KIT). I’ll plan on doing them with the zincs annually.

As previously mentioned they weren’t leaking and performance was normal. I just wasn’t sure if I was having something weird going on. Thought the “Barnacle Buster” chem might have softened them up from the last time a circulated the cleaner in the engine.

    Thanks.

Not sure where yours came from, but for sure the ones we sell are genuine SENDURE and supposedly made from a GUM rubber compound.. Have I seen what you have just experienced over the years?

100% yes, but maybe more over the last few years than a long time ago.. Luckily they are cheap and you should be dealing with your Heat x at least every 24 months anyway.. Common sense would tell me they were never designed to be reused regardless, just like basically every other gasket & O-ring on the engine…

I am sure others here should be able to comment too.

Iā€™m not fond of how the zinc blocks the tubes. I cut mine in half and change more often
