February 23, 2017 at 1:35 am Hi Guys I have a 2000 model 6CTA M3, at the moment it has a Delco 22si alternator, J hinge, 12v, with sense wire. I think its 130amp or 145amp I am looking at installing a 28si, preferably 180amp, 8600223,Ā or 160amp 8600312, to give me more charge at idle. I do a lot of drifting, engine idle or off and when wrecking idle & low rpm,s. on a night especially I have a a large load drawingĀ from the plotters, radar, lights, heater etc. I have 2 x …

January 27, 2021 at 8:10 am Tony, Thanks. I have quite a bit of experience in marine electrical matters, and I am completely hands-on. I have “home run” voltage meters on all my battery banks. I have a good idea of where the power is used. I have a pretty good understanding of alternators, one-wire vs. three-wire, internal vs. external regulation, etc. The issue I am addressing is the desire for charging the house bank when underway. We cruise a lot, with overn…

    • Rattling or Ticking Noise 6CTA (450 Diamond)

October 18, 2019 at 1:17 pm My starboard engine has been running well. Actually, both have. No complaints with power, performance, or anything. However, when in the engine room today I began hearing a rattle or “ticking” sound. I looked around the engine itself and I didn’t see anything external that is loose that could be causing the rattle sound. So, naturally, Iā€™m imagining the worst … valves. Can anyone offer a rough diagnosis from a video? …

Well, mine did. Not always necessary, but he did. I’m the grateful recipient! As it turns out, this …

    • 6CTA-M3, 8.3L, Diamond – injector pressure

January 21, 2019 at 5:08 am Hi Guys I recently became the proud owner of a cracked exhaust manifold, got me stumped how it is cracked! This put coolant Into no 6 cylinder. Now that I have the injectors out, should I get them tested? Also while they are out, I read on other forums about increasing the pressure, but I am not sure if this only applies to the 5 Hole injectors. Mine are 4 hole I believe, s/n 46029990, cpl 2172. They are stamped 260bar If it is advisable to incr…

January 21, 2019 at 10:01 am A little history I got the boat in 2009 with 50 hours, launched in November. in early 2010 I was out and the coolant pipe blew out of the back of the block. I saw steam, stopped and shut down, it got the turbo hot enough to take the paint off. ( you wonā€™t recall it ) both you and Paul Foulston kindly took time to advise me on what to do and check on another forum (BD) I had no symptoms of cracked manifold or head, no bubbles in header, fitted …

    • SMX pump issue?

This topic has 10 replies, has 7 voices, and was last updated byBradley 6 years ago

July 7, 2017 at 11:41 am In pulling out my impeller on an SMX pump for a Cummins 6BTA I noticed this rainbow film attached to the back of the impeller. It turned out to be a small piece of metal lodged in it. Reaching in to the pump I pulled out some other remains of a washer or snap ring? I also grabbed the spring and washer, the washer being noticeably rusty. The pump is in a place where i can not see, so I need to shove a camera somewhat close and take pictures. I …

July 26, 2017 at 11:19 am unfortunately this exact failure happened to me on both of my SMX pumps and the repair is very simple using the parts and tool sent by Seaboard. The PVC pipe is essentially a ram rod to set the rings that hold in the spring loaded assembly. Surely you can resolve this yourself without taking out the pump.

November 9, 2016 at 7:41 pm Hi Fellas, just new to the site, I have fuel filtration as per Tony’s recommendation, FS19513 – FS1000 on engine fs1280. is there a finer micron filter that is plug and play onto the existing 1280filter head spud threads ? Is it necessary to go finer micron on that last chance filter? i have had this filtration since 60 hours, 2010 with 1800hrs currently and she runs sweet as a nut, no smoke. ive always wondered if having the bulk kn…

November 11, 2016 at 7:15 am Thanks for the reply Tony, I thought as much, but I thought I,d check. I’ll look into a cummins filter head if available to fit my engine. The way the USD is with GBP and postage makes it costly purchase from seaboard at the moment.   thanks again Paul
