    • SMX super 27 impeller compatable with Sherwood

August 28, 2023 at 7:06 am Hi. I have just replaced my failed Sherwood seawater pump with the SMX QSB pump. Are my spare Sherwood 2700K impellers compatible with the new SMX QSB? I see theĀ  Super 27 is compatable (and better quality) with all Cummins QSB (assuming Sherwood) seawater pumps but being cautious I just wanted to check the reverse compatability so that I don’t throw out / give away my existing spares. Many thanks. P.S. I appreciated the fast service from …

    • High oil pressure

This topic has 6 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated byRob Schepis 4 years ago

March 23, 2020 at 11:56 am Hi all. I have a QSB 5.9 in a 2006 Mainship 400 trawler with 2600 hours. Oil and filters are changed regularly. Pressure normally reads 52 to 54 psi at my normal cruising range but the some days for no apparent reason shows 74 to 78 psi. Q1? What is the cause and repair? Q2? Any harm risked by the high oil pressure? My owners manual says it should be regulated at 50 psi. Thanks Paul

    • Popping / backfire sound on QSB 5.9 startup

This topic has 3 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated byPaul Bellefontaine 4 years ago

March 24, 2020 at 8:55 am Hi all. Another issue as I get organized for a visit to a mechanic. My 2006 5.9 with 2600 hours has started to intermittently make a single popping sound similar to a muted backfire on start up. It seems to be more likely if the engine has not been run for 2 or 3 days. We are looping and generally move each day. Any thoughts on the cause or repair? I Could not attach the sound file. Many thanks. Paul

    • Gasket for FF5488 on a QSB 5.9

June 24, 2019 at 6:20 pm In addition to the flat gasket that sits around the circumference of the FF 5488 it is shipped with a shallow round black tube shaped gasket that is presumably there for the centre hole. There is no groove or detention in the filter housing to match it and it is a sloppy fit on the screw on threads that the filter screws up onto. It is so loose it will fall off. 1) Is this the correct centre gasket for this filter / engine combo. 2) Watching Ut…

June 25, 2019 at 6:28 pm It is to block any fluid from getting from the center back to the outside of the element. The outer seal does the work of stopping outside leaks.as I recalled mine stayed put.

    • Smart regulator for QSB 5.9 Alternator

This topic has 3 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated byRob Schepis 5 years ago

August 28, 2018 at 10:18 am I have a 2006 QSB 5.9 with what looks like the standard Delco alternator. The electronic display shows it to be putting out a fixed 13.1 volts. I have an 8D AGM deep cycle start battery and 2 8D AGM deep cycle house batteries. They should be charged at 13.5 volts float voltage. 1) Is there a standard Cummins alternator and regulator that would allow for adjustable output voltage? Even better an external smart regulator that would quick charge th…
