    In addition to the flat gasket that sits around the circumference of the FF 5488 it is shipped with a shallow round black tube shaped gasket that is presumably there for the centre hole. There is no groove or detention in the filter housing to match it and it is a sloppy fit on the screw on threads that the filter screws up onto. It is so loose it will fall off.
    1) Is this the correct centre gasket for this filter / engine combo.
    2) Watching Utube vidƩos of spin on filter installs there is no mention of a centre gasket. Should it be left out? There was no sign of one there on taking out the old.

    It is to block any fluid from getting from the center back to the outside of the element. The outer seal does the work of stopping outside leaks.as I recalled mine stayed put.
