October 21, 2022 at 3:16 am On the Cummins factory supplied transmission oil cooler shown here (6BT 5.9), there is NO real provision for an anode.Ā  The small 1/8″ NPT port / plug was put there to drain the coolant/seawater , or maybe for a seawater feed to a shaft log?.. Maybe we should ask, what were they thinking?

April 6, 2022 at 3:28 pm Hi, appreciate any advice I can get. I am in Bew Zealand unable to return to my home in Vanuatu due to border closure. I have been locked out for two years. Over that time a friend has been looking after my boat,Caribbean 32 with twin Ā 6BTs, 1996 5000 hours. ge has been running them for half an hour once a month but recently the Stb engine will not fire. There is no water in the fuel filter bowl and the port engine runs fine from common tank. th…

February 2, 2020 at 1:43 am Simple query but have struggled to find the answer. Running twin 6BTs with ZF 63As. About 300hours per annum mostly at 1300rpm. How often should I replace the transmission fluid and filter? Appreciate your advice once again. Tx NIgel

February 2, 2020 at 2:53 pm I have Hurth 630As, same as ZF63A. I change my fluid every year whether 200 hours or 600 hours, and the filter every 4 or 5 years. My fluid is always perfectly clean when it is removed. If it were dirty I might change the filter a little more often. Also when I do change filters they are always fairly clean. I am a big proponent of once a year regardless of hours. I have been following this protocol for 20 years and 6,600+ hours with no trans…

August 18, 2018 at 5:02 pm Hi all, I would really appreciate some advice on a new problem. I have a Caribbean (Bertram) 32 with twin 6BT and ZF 63A transmissions. Several months ago I had a shaft seal replaced on the port gearbox, replacing the fluid with Shell Spirax ATF. The boat hasnā€™t been used since then until yesterday. The transmission pressure was low and flickering but it would go in to both forward and reverse ok though I suspect at times I had some slippage.. T…

August 26, 2018 at 4:44 am I see you have a VDO transmission sender listed as 28 bar/400psi. Would this be a suitable replacement for a 25 bar 360 psi VDO sender in the ZF 63a of mine? Thanks

November 11, 2017 at 9:29 pm Hi all. First post and looking fir some help. I live in Vanuatu where specialist marine services and advice are thin on the ground. I have twin 1996 6BT 210 in Caribbean 32 with 5000 hours running Holse H1C turbos.. Around 18 months ago Stb engine started pouring out black smoke and had hole in the core assembly. To cut a long story short replaced the exhaust housing and core with new genuine Holset parts and was fine for 9 months. After not run…

November 18, 2017 at 2:34 pm Decided to wait before pulling the turbo as the spare elbow was not in good shape and the turbo is currently spinning freely. I need to use the boat this week too. There is little fall in the elbow So easy to imagine how some water could get back into turbo. The distance from the top of the flange to the boat floor is 210mm so allowing clearance I guess we have about 150mm of available rise. I have attached a drawing for your comments. It would …
