August 29, 2022 at 12:11 pm Port-Engine-High-Sodium-1

A recent oil test came back showing a sudden rise in sodium after 50 engine hours on the sample. Per attached it shows 48 ppm as compared to 0 ppm in previous samples. Does this require immediate attention or monitoring. By way of background, my aftercooler is approximately 5 years old and water pump is less than 2 years old. I understand these can be areas that can cause this. Engine is 2002, 6CT…

August 30, 2022 at 4:42 pm Take my answer above as “gospel”.. You really have no clue what is going on inside your cooler.. We both know that, so not sure why you want to play with the real potential much more serious damage? Ā Ā

    • Low Voltage Warning Light and Buzzer

July 22, 2020 at 9:01 pm I have a pair of 2002 6CTA 8.3 M3 Diamond engines (non electronic). The low voltage warning light and buzzer is going off on the port engine and sure enough, the gauge on the dash panel shows only10 volts while at cruise. My problem is that the port alternator is actually putting out 14.5 volts at the alternator. Incidentally, both upper and lower helm stations show the same reading. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

June 5, 2019 at 8:26 pm I have Sherwoods Raw Water Pumps on both my 6CTA8.3 Cummins. I’m planning on proactively upgrading to the SMX 1730 pumps. Never having done this particular job before, I see that it is gear drive. My question is, do I have to drain the oil first in order to change them out?

June 6, 2019 at 5:01 am Agree with David. The oil drains out of the “gear case” when the engine is off. The oil is engine oil, drains into the oil pan. Hope this helps. I have also done the upgrade, easy.
