    Guys,

    Thanks for the advice. I assumed after reassembly you would pressure test the unit as a whole. I understand some creativity is necessary to seal off the air or water ends.

    I was not aware that the core could also be tested separately, although this would not test the gasket seals also?

    Thanks again for your insight. I appreciate your efforts in responding.

    The 38′ Tiara’s I have been interested in are around 2005 so there will be no warranty recourse. I’m glad it worked out for you. My tolerance isn’t going to be too high for dealing with a major engine rebuild if these engines have been “abused” so I am trying to learn all the potential pitfalls before committing to these boats.

    Your points to evaluate make this much clearer.

    Thanks for all the info. I had actually read those articles before and that’s what prompted me to ask about these engines. I have re read them again!

    The boats that I am looking at are Tiara 38′ opens. It seems as those built around 2004,05 have these 6CTA 8.3 engines at 480HP

    I have seen the Aftercooler picture in the mentioned article with a “burned” outside appearance. Is this due to the high exhaust temps in an over propped boat that the cooler can’t cool down?

    Would you know when the QSC series engines started to be manufactured? Would it potentially be better to look at these boats with this newer series?

    Thanks for your suggestions. I will look into making a change from the foam filter. The above link that was sent looks like the kit is for Cummins engines not Yanmar?

    Rob,

    I don’t have smoke or a lot of oil from the breather. I was just wondering if changing to the Airsep filter was worth it over keeping the stock foam one and if there was an advantage?

    Here is the setup I installed to flush my 6LPA. Pex plumbing tubing is used to Tee into the hose before the inter cooler and runs along the inside of the hatch to the hose fitting. There is a shut off valve before the hose fitting not visible here. So far, it seems to work well.

    Here are a few pics of my exhaust system for a Yanmar 6LPA. The water inlet in on the downside
    of the dry section. I’m not sure that I have achieved 12′ above the LWL due to boat design but it is close.
    After the riser, the exhaust continues straight out through a muffler. Again, my question is about placing a Tee
    before the intercooler to flush the engine without running it. Would this build up enough volume to adequately
    flush the engine since the raw water pump is not running? Thanks for your help. John

    Would it make sense to cut in a flushing line after the raw water pump so that the engine could be flushed
    without running it? Would a garden hose then produce enough volume to adequately flush the engine?

    I would like to add a fresh water flush to my Yanmar 6LPA. Groco makes an adaptor that mounts to the seacock or

    sea strainer that a fresh water hose will then attach too. Does anyone have any experience with this part?
