October 9, 2019 at 7:04 pm I would like to service my Yanmar 6PLA Intercooler this off season. I believe I am familiar with the process from diagrams and info on your site. Can you describe how to pressure test it after servicing? Pressure amount and how long? Thanks for any advice.

October 10, 2019 at 6:50 pm Guys, Thanks for the advice. I assumed after reassembly you would pressure test the unit as a whole. I understand some creativity is necessary to seal off the air or water ends. I was not aware that the core could also be tested separately, although this would not test the gasket seals also?

August 25, 2019 at 6:39 pm I am trying to understand some basics about a 2004 6CTA 8.3 480HP engine. I currently have a Yanmar powered boat and am familiar with the issues of propping at WOT, Diesel Maintanence and Exhaust Design. I am looking at a 2004 Tiara with these engines. Is this engine a 480CE or am I confusing this? Is this an electronic engine to achieve this HP? Are there any issues to be aware of with this engine besides maintenance, proper propping and exhaus…

August 29, 2019 at 7:06 pm Steve, Thanks again for your insight. I appreciate your efforts in responding. The 38′ Tiara’s I have been interested in are around 2005 so there will be no warranty recourse. I’m glad it worked out for you. My tolerance isn’t going to be too high for dealing with a major engine rebuild if these engines have been “abused” so I am trying to learn all the potential pitfalls before committing to these boats. You…

January 19, 2017 at 8:08 am Years ago, following Tony’s recommendation, I hooked up fresh water flush fittings to my engine’s strainer and started flushing religiously. Within less than a year I noticed that the engine zincs were holding up much better; in fact after three years they are still going strong. I also believed that I was reducing corrosion on my raw water metal components, particularly the after cooler. Tony has implied that you can double the inte…

Apologies for reviving an old thread, but Iā€™ve tried multiple searches and cannot find the Tonyā€™s Tips article on fresh water flushing. Itā€™s referenced in the ā€œmarine ageā€ article but no link and I have had zero luck finding it. Are you looking for a “how-to” ? There is no such instruction as one size does not fit all. Many many variables with some of the key components being your seawa…

January 4, 2018 at 2:45 pm I have a 2007 Yanmar 6LPA-STP engine. I was wondering if there was any significant advantage to replacing the stock foam air filter with an Airsep filter? Would the crankcase vent the same onto the pleated filter? Thanks for your help.
