Cummins QSM11 surges a little at idle
This topic has 1 reply, has 2 voices, and was last updated by 4 years ago
August 27, 2019 at 4:25 am My port engine surges a from 600-630rpms sometimes when i come off a cruise. It doesn’t happen everytime, maybe 20%-30% of the time. It will go away after idling for a few minutes. It seems to go away in gear. Nothing else seams to have changed regarding fuel usage, engine temps, etc. I think I have clean fuel as I Use lubricator, Bio Kleen and Diesel clean at each fill up and fuel filters were changed at the beginning of the season and f…
1 ReplyAugust 27, 2019 at 8:18 pm Basically nothing unless you want to start changing some components on the engine —Fuel actuator, position sensors, fuel pressure regulator, etc)..It may even come down to re-programming the ECM back to the latest version for your CPL/ engine HP rating.. ………….Personally, I’d learn to live with this very small glitch. 30 RPM?? Tony.

Cummins QSM 11 Smartcraft fault 422 coolant level sensor
This topic has 4 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated by 5 years ago
April 24, 2019 at 8:32 am I have a 2011 searay sedan bridge with QSM11s. I am getting a fault code 422 sensor coolant level. Looks like this is a Cummins ECM code and not a smartcraft code. Do these motors have coolant level sensors? If so where is it located? If there are no coolant level sensor then how do I clear this code? Can it be done through smartcraft or does it need to be done through Cummins ECM? Thanks for your time. Jeremy Gavin
4 RepliesApril 28, 2019 at 1:46 pm For the future————-All of of instrument readings, codes, etc. that you read on your Cummins/Mercury VesselView Display are “re-transmitted/re-interpreted & messed with” by the Mercury Smartcraft electronics on your engine.. Glad you got it sorted out. In general, coolant level sensor on all of the “Q” engines have been less than trouble free compared to things like Oil Pressure or coolant tem…

QSM 11 overloaded – how much pitch to take out of the props
This topic has 9 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated by 5 years ago
October 30, 2018 at 6:08 am 2 weeks ago I purchased a 2011 Sea Ray 520 Sedan Bridge (50,000 lb) with twin QSM11s. I am trying to determine how much pitch to take out of the props. I included a pic of the data I took from my run to winter storage. Based on that data if it is enough data to determine, how much pitch should I take out of the props to get the fuel consumption to 20 Gph at 2000 rpm to avoid exhaust issues? The engines both ran up top 2330 rpms at the survey…
9 RepliesNovember 6, 2018 at 8:27 am Larry, The engines had the 1000hr service in May 2017 at around 600hrs by Cummins and at that time aftercoolers, heat exchangers, gear coolers etc where serviced and checked. That was verified by the local Cummins dealer that I hired to do the engine survey. My plan was to get through the coming season and next winter layup to check these items again. Do you think that is a good plan?
