    • 6CTA added CCV now I have valve cover blow by?

February 13, 2020 at 2:46 pm I installed the SBmar CCV breathers/filters last year and instantly had oil blowing out the valve cover. Wears me out since everything has recently been painted. I made the hole in the bottle bigger, but its still doing it. Both motors. Any suggestions? Thank you

    • Need turbo oil feed line fitting help 6CTA

January 7, 2020 at 8:27 am Recently I replaced both turbos on my 450’s, and I have misplaced this copper fitting in the feed line. One didn’t even have one when I took it off. Im having a tough time finding a replacement, the turbo shop said they fall out and some people don’t even use them. (ie, my port motor turbo side it was missing before I got there). It just seems to be an inverted flare fitting, but I hate putting stuff back together differen…

    • How long to let 6CTA sit before running it?

This topic has 5 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated byfirehoser75 4 years ago

October 30, 2019 at 6:01 pm I usually go check on my boat every 2 weeks in the winter, sometimes 3 or more. Is it better for the motors to run them idle them up to temp every month, or just let them sit for extended periods. Thanks. I’m in Seattle, so its from 30-50 degrees in the winter.

October 31, 2019 at 6:55 pm Steve, I have a Wolverine pan heater on my engine and just leave it on all the time with the ER vents closed over with foam. This keeps the engine and entire ER quite warm and dry. It uses so little power and works better on all the time so no timer is needed. Works for me. Tom

    • Help with Shaft Seals?

This topic has 3 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated byMike Pettee 4 years ago

August 7, 2019 at 9:41 pm Can you guys school me on shaft seals, and replacement? How can I identify what I have, does boat need to be hauled out to replace, etc. I have a 97 41′ Formula with 450’s. Port side recently started drinking ATF, goes through the whole reservoir in 30 minutes of run time, could be 3 minutes for all I know, I just check it in 30. Also, can I limp it along for a while longer, I’d rather not haul the boat in august. Thanks

August 10, 2019 at 3:32 am Never heard of an ATF cooled seal, that is interesting. I just replaced my shaft seals this season. I used Lasdrop seals. Boat needs to be pulled as the whole shaft needs to be unbolted from transmission and moved back to allow the new seal on. See if there is a spare seal on the shaft though. A lot of people place a spare on the shaft in case of an emegency. Could you do it in water? probably, but not worth it. If prepared a one day job. Migh…

    • 6CTA pushing anti-freeze into over flow bottle?

This topic has 4 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated bydnord2 4 years ago

July 2, 2019 at 7:44 am I recently had my coolant system apart, refilled it and now I push coolant into the overflow bottle. Whats weird is that is rises when running, then comes back down once the motor is cool. The other engine, the level in the overflow bottle never changes. Also seems to run 10 degrees warmer with this new situation. Is there a way to bleed the coolant system, air bubble causing that maybe? On this picture, the bottom line is where the coolant …

July 8, 2019 at 7:44 am Thank you for the thorough response, I often wondered why you had to bleed a system when there is a small relief tube going from the radiator cap to the overflow bottle, seems like that would be self bleeding by design. Anyway, the PORT engine is the one that rises and falls with engine temp. Last time out, I idled out at 1200 with the cap off. Right away the AF was being pushed out the cap slightly, just a constant dribble. I let it go to 17…

    • Pushing oil through breather with CCV?

This topic has 3 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated bydnord2 4 years ago

June 26, 2019 at 11:56 am I recently installed the CCV system, and since then one of my motors it pushing oil out on top instead of through the hose? Any idea what would cause this? I changed over from the Walker system for no other reason than because it seemed like a solid modification. Meaning, I didn’t have any problems as far as I know. Thank you-

July 1, 2019 at 7:35 am Thanks Rob, mine did have the holes but there were miniscule piercings more than holes. I opened them up just a bit, I’ll report back if its still pushing oil. The o-ring fitting on top seems tight, so we’ll see. Not sure what you mean by spill over height? Ive owned this boat for a year, so there has been much cleaning and servicing to get it to my liking but Im still working out a few gremlins. The exhaust side of the turbos we…

    • 6CTA, underpropped or not making power?

This topic has 11 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated bydnord2 4 years ago

June 3, 2019 at 10:24 am First post, I’ve been through these forums for a while. I have a 97 Formula 41PC with 450’s. Currently, only turning 2500 RPM WOT and 2900 high idle. I recently messed with the throttle linkage, since there was some extra in there but still not giving me the proper RPM. I’m ok with getting props pitched, but initially I want to make sure the motors are making proper power so I’m not just band-aiding a possible problem…
