May 9, 2019 at 5:16 pm cpl 1975 2100 hours, twins. Starboard engine getting harder to start- last summer changed the last chance filter and had a hard time priming. Mickey moused a bulb setup to get it fired and then replaced it with a SMX double double. Put 700 nm on the pair of engines with no problem. 6 months later I have the same problem getting it started. the double double is full of fuel but the lift pump cannot produce a squeak, just a buzzing sound. …

May 12, 2019 at 6:04 pm The “spring” inside the pump can “break”.. Also, the “return check valve” can also break to where it will not hold proper pressure.. I’d start with replacing the lift pump.. Tony

September 16, 2018 at 4:19 pm cpl 1975 with cummins alternator 105 amp(?) alternator feeding group 31 start battery only. Used to have belt squeal at startup and finally unhooked the air heater a few weeks ok. Ran great, no squeals until today. started the engine, no squeal at idle but over 1000 belt squeals and gets worse with more rpm. Volt gauge at dash shows 12.0 volts even at 1500 rpm when it would normally increase to 3.5 +/-. Noticed coolant cap loose and rattling,…

September 17, 2018 at 7:04 am The field (exciter) is #1 on the 19SI and is basically the ON/OFF control from switched 12V. If the alternator output is not there even as RPM’s are introduced I do not believe the field wire is your culprit. Belt squealing over 1,000 rpms ?? That needs to be sorted out ASAP. Probably best to get that alternator out and to a good shop. Have some good pictures of the the alternator and the front engine (with the belt guard off) so we can s…

June 2, 2018 at 3:24 pm Cpl 1975 330. Serviced aftercooler but put the oring in the cap instead of like you show in the video. Do not do this. Aftercooler leaked sea water to the air side during sea trial so when I pushed the throttles up the engine slowed down. Backed the throttles to 1500 and limped back to the dock (30 minutes). Shut down the engines and serviced the aftercooler the CORRECT way and reinstalled. Also changed the last chance filter. Engine tur…

June 5, 2018 at 1:50 pm 39 bayliner with cpl 1975 330’s. The previous owner pulled the rinky dink fuel filters off the forward bulkhead and installed a pair of Racor 75900’s for each engine, mounting them on the stringers. After reading and re-reading Tony’s articles on fuel filtration I realize that only have 2 stages of filtration; the racor (prelim) and the last chance filter. The racors have a vacuum gauge but no tattle tale needles and I am not…

June 5, 2018 at 3:09 pm Go for it. As to your number 4 above, probably not worth the effort because if you go with the SMX Double Double setup you can pretty much forget you even have a last chance filter… I just gave my CPL1975 330B’s a Racor to SMXDD swap. I did good on eBay with my Racor’s and the xtras that you see in the pic. Winning bid total was $305, shipped. They were very clean. I opted to compact the DD setup and the squeeze bulb to fi…
