September 11, 2022 at 1:44 pm This year has troubled me… See below.Ā  Port engine has been burning more fuel (as much as 2GPH) depending on speed all season.Ā Ā  Overall GPH has increased as the season went on… Which is typical; bottom growth, higher ambient temperatures, humidity, etc. Aug 1st – Cleaned the bottom and running gear. Prop shop checked the props and said a couple blades were bent over slightly. They thought the yard may have done it by block…

April 25, 2023 at 3:34 pm So the boat was run again and these are my EGTs. Ā Again, these are QSM-11 715hp in a 4700 Tiara Sovran. Ā  Ā We are seeing less than 1,000deg at all rpmā€™s. Ā So I assume if Iā€™m running under 1,000 at my cruising speeds of 2,000-2,100 my manifolds and turbos should be out of the danger zone?

August 13, 2020 at 11:36 am Turbo Leaking exhaust from one edge. Not sure if it is the connection or the turbo body failing. See attached pictures. Any thoughts?

May 11, 2021 at 5:18 am To all – My East Coast (MD) propeller shop is telling me that my Strut is too bent to repair and the pitting is of concern as well. See picture below. Looking for a replacement strut if anyone has a resource. New is 2 months more on the hard. May have to go down that road but was taking a shot if anyone knows of or has a resource for a replacement. Thanks to all in advance… – Algonak Marine (OEM) Cast #25550 – Sea Ray P…

    • Turbo Flange Leaking Exhaust from Heat Shield

April 11, 2020 at 8:43 pm Can you guys give me some tips on a repair? See pictures. I have been smelling exhaust and found evidence of Exhaust Leaks from around the Turbo Flange and I believe from both sides or maybe it is spilling all around the Heat Shield. I am able to feel the exhaust air pushing out of both sides of the heat shield. You can see Exhaust Dirt on the new Air Filter. This is after just a few hours of run time. 2007 QSM 11 670

April 12, 2020 at 7:31 am Richard, History of the issue–It goes back to 1999 when the 1st DRY manifolds were released on a marine QSM11. Regardless of what you have read and Cummins has claimed to do as to “upgrades”, the issue persists today. Understand there is not a sure fix for this if you need more than about 18 GPH of HP at 2000 RPM to satisfy you need for speed. And even propped that light guarantees nothing as the design of the system is just …

    • Sorry but…QSM Dry Exhaust Questions

This topic has 6 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated byRichard Lynch 4 years ago

January 7, 2020 at 8:31 pm Seems there are a number of us QSM folks with Dry Exhaustsā€¦ No fix seems available to me after all the reading I have found. Question 1 ā€“ What does Cummins suggest after all of these years of common issues with the dry exhausts? Question 2 ā€“ I have seen some threads on a Wet Exhaust Conversion. Is there hope for a resonable conversion? Thank you for your responses

    • 2007 QSM 11 Surface Rust Valves 500 Hours

This topic has 5 replies, has 3 voices, and was last updated bySteve Lewis 4 years ago

August 21, 2019 at 11:33 pm During a routine valve adjustment on both engines our mechanic found surface rust on the valves for both engines. He cleaned them both up and suggested we send the oil out for testing in 30 hours or so. Our current oil samples show clean however the previous owner had recently changed the oil (within 10 hours) so we know that probably is not a good indicator. Thoughts? Suggestions?

August 24, 2019 at 6:11 am Based on the reported performance of ~30mph @ 2000rpm burning 22GPH I would probably look into having the props tuned a bit. Read the following and then my advice will make sense. The last sentence says it all Propping the Cummins Marine QSM 11 to Prevent Exhaust Issues take an inch or two out of the prop pitch and that should get your fuel burn down under the recommendation and that will extend the life of your exhaust manifolds. You have …
