September 11, 2022 at 1:44 pm This year has troubled me… See below.Ā  Port engine has been burning more fuel (as much as 2GPH) depending on speed all season.Ā Ā  Overall GPH has increased as the season went on… Which is typical; bottom growth, higher ambient temperatures, humidity, etc. Aug 1st – Cleaned the bottom and running gear. Prop shop checked the props and said a couple blades were bent over slightly. They thought the yard may have done it by block…

April 25, 2023 at 3:34 pm So the boat was run again and these are my EGTs. Ā Again, these are QSM-11 715hp in a 4700 Tiara Sovran. Ā  Ā We are seeing less than 1,000deg at all rpmā€™s. Ā So I assume if Iā€™m running under 1,000 at my cruising speeds of 2,000-2,100 my manifolds and turbos should be out of the danger zone?

May 11, 2021 at 5:18 am To all – My East Coast (MD) propeller shop is telling me that my Strut is too bent to repair and the pitting is of concern as well. See picture below. Looking for a replacement strut if anyone has a resource. New is 2 months more on the hard. May have to go down that road but was taking a shot if anyone knows of or has a resource for a replacement. Thanks to all in advance… – Algonak Marine (OEM) Cast #25550 – Sea Ray P…

    • QSM 670/2100 hrs – what would you do?

November 17, 2019 at 5:39 am In light of the others QSM thread – Here is a photo of my 3 year old QSM with 2100 hrs. To me it says the beginnings of a soot leak which I intend to address this winter. I will Have both coolers pulled and serviced, and proactively replace the manifold and gaskets. The engine has burned about 9000 gallons of fuel, ie low duty cycle and is typically run either at 860 RPM/2.5 GPH or 1875 RPM/18 GPH. In mid summer / heavy canyon load si…

May 21, 2020 at 8:24 pm Realized on our 220 mile round trip run from Annapolis MD to Cape May, NJ. last weekend that I was losing about 2 Gallons of coolant into the bilge every 3 hours or so of running. We were in the first leg of the trip when I realized, so I continued to fill the Coolant Tank every couple hours of running. Had our mechanic pressure test the system today and he figured out the Heat Exchanger “plate” was weeping pretty good when he appli…

March 11, 2017 at 1:22 pm I use the Seaboard Double Double system for my fuel filtration. Ā My vacuum gauges are reading about 2″-3″ mm HG. Still in the green zone. A friend who is a powerplant generator operator said the filters need to be changed out every 2 years regardless of the reading because the paper elements break down. Ā I have never heard that. Ā Is that something to be concerned with or should the vacuum gauge be the determining factor. Thanks in ad…

December 7, 2019 at 6:30 am On a Cummins electronic engine ( can’t speak for others as I do not know there “fuel system”), max fuel flow occurs only under load, plus on an average, total fuel flow is measurably less with the common rail engines. As a comparison– Max fuel flow with any QSB 5.9 is about 50 GPH at full engine load/RPM Max Fuel flow with a 6BTA 5.9 370 is about 73 GPH and occurs at approx 1800- 2000 RPM in neutral or under load. November 25, 2019 at 8:03 pm Please take a look at the 2 pics of my Turbo’s and let me know what you think caused the damage shown on the intake blades. The starboard is much worse than the Port. There is a movement in the shafts as well. Engine hours are 1632. There is no physical damage to the exhaust side but a discoloration a copper brown.

November 27, 2019 at 1:10 pm Clark, let’s hope the prop pitch reduction resolves the exhaust leak issue… sure sounds like it will… for sure you’re heading in the right direction. The fuel burn numbers on sea trial will tell the story. I would recommend that you replace the Cummins OEM air filters with something aftermarket that’s much easier to maintain and is less expensive long-term. Also, as a part of the engine assessment & revamping&#…
