January 30, 2017 at 8:54 pm Hi SB crew I have a Riviera 4000 offshore express on Gold Coast, Queensland which featuresĀ 2 x 1997 6CTA8.3 aka C450 Diamond Series with around 1000 hours on the tachourmeters. The other morning I found a bolt in the engine room and it is from the turbo where the exhaust bolts to the turbo. Please refer attached photos. Recent running wasĀ not hard and last couple of runs before this discovery we were only doing aĀ leisurely 10 knots or 1100rpm.Ā  …

October 27, 2022 at 2:49 am Hi SB Crew After almost 8 years to the day we sold our beloved Riviera. In due diligence we pointed the new owner, Rodney to your awesome site, this forum and these specific topics. In those 8 years we never had the rocker covers off … not saying that is a good thing… but lucky for us we never had a failure. Also never got to install my new SMX sea water pumps. The best thing we did was to plumb fresh water input after the sea cocks.…

August 16, 2018 at 6:47 pm Hi guys What engine paint should I use to tidy up some sea water leak rust stains etc on my 1997 6CTA Cummins 450’s? I’d prefer brush on rather than aerosol due to the engine room confines and fiddly nature of the touch ups. Cummins South Pacific quote beige paint in oil 3885999 and water 3885925 based. Which is better or can I simply get the local auto paint shop to make me some paint using a formula or color sample? Does anyone hav…

May 22, 2019 at 8:37 pm I think the 6CTA is a whiter paint is it not over the 6BTA? I have been using dulux fast dry enamel for some non critical bits and on the genset (another ignored mechanical item I am finding!) they do an antique white which may be a closeish match for the whiter cummins paint. If not I guess you are down to a auto paint shop and get them to colour match and mix for you.. I have done this in cans before.. Steve

January 30, 2017 at 9:31 pm   Hi SB crew I have a 1998 VDO Cummins Oceanline Tachourmeter on the starboard side that was working fine but is now going off scale (over 4000rpm) when I reach around 1000rpm and it then never recovers. I tried a swap test and it is the tacho as it does the same on the left engine. Is it stuffed or is there an opportunity to recover? I cannot source any replacement for this old tacho… Regards   Mark Theyer
