Hi guys
What engine paint should I use to tidy up some sea water leak rust stains etc on my 1997 6CTA Cummins 450’s?
I’d prefer brush on rather than aerosol due to the engine room confines and fiddly nature of the touch ups.
Cummins South Pacific quote beige paint in oil 3885999 and water 3885925 based. Which is better or can I simply get the local auto paint shop to make me some paint using a formula or color sample? Does anyone have a “formula” or know how to match Cummins beige? I ask because genuine paint will be very expensive here in Australia… does SB sell paint?
Thanks
Mark

I think the 6CTA is a whiter paint is it not over the 6BTA?
I have been using dulux fast dry enamel for some non critical bits and on the genset (another ignored mechanical item I am finding!) they do an antique white which may be a closeish match for the whiter cummins paint.
If not I guess you are down to a auto paint shop and get them to colour match and mix for you.. I have done this in cans before..

Bummer. That tin of gloss almond I tried to purchase via eBay USA for import into Australia failed as a “restricted item” at the Shipping Center. Got a refund but no paint. Not happy. Begging the local Rust Oleum for help with this… but looks like its white for engine touch up or nothing at this stage.

Hi Tony, thank you for reaching out! Unfortunately, we do not currently offer this colour in Australia; the closest we have is our Antique White in spray:

Bunnings and Mitre 10 are the best places to find our paints, or you can use our Find in Store function on the above page link to locate another stockist near you.
Cheers

As I’m interested in this also… No Rob Amazon don’t ship to Oz any more due to import taxes having to be collected at source ie Amazon.. they have an Aus store now at 5 times the price and 1/100 the range but all locally supplied stuff. Only option is MyUS or similar forwarders… Not sure if they would ship paint though?

Get the Rustoleum in almond and a small white can too. The colder parts of the engine stay a lighter beige than the hotter parts. So put some beige in a cup and add some white til you get it just right.

We’ve used standard, off the shelf, Rust-O-Leum Gloss Almond ( brush & spray) for at least 25 yrs –Great match for the Cummins beige.. A good old fashioned Alkyd oil based enamel that you can still buy in Calif…

HI Mark
I used the local paint shop to make some up for my 6BTA’s when I redid the HX aftercooler and turbo.. not an exact match but on 20 year old engines it looks fine! As the parts were off I used Aerosol however I’m sure they could make me a tin also..
