    • Engine Data on 480CE J1939 bus?

This topic has 7 replies, has 6 voices, and was last updated byJay Brussels 10 months ago

November 15, 2017 at 10:06 am This came up briefly in another discussion but I thought it made sense to make the topic it’s own thread. Does anyone know if, on the 480CE, the engine data (such fuel burn, loading, RPM, etc) is sent over J1939 bus as well as the J1708 bus? The “C8.3 Marine Electronic Control System Troubleshooting and Repair Manual” shows a pin-out for the 9-pin diagnostic connector that shows both J1708 and J1939 high and low conductors. B…

July 6, 2023 at 8:26 am I am running a J1939 to NEMA2000 Gateway with dual 480CE’s.Ā  Normally the engines are numbered on the J1939 bus as engine 0 and engine 1.Ā  On my 2004 Riviera they are engine 0 and engine 239.Ā  The converter changes this to 0 & 1 for the N2K bus.Ā  I receive everything that is on theĀ  J1708 bus.

    • Turbo to air pipe leak

October 4, 2021 at 6:54 am I have a pair of 6CTA 480 CE on a 2003 Pursuit 38, the starboard engine is running fine but after running the boat for about one hour I noticed a leak at the clamp between the turbo and the air pipe that goes to the aftercooler. I removed the clamp and found that there is a rubber o-ring inside that was broken, I will be replace it during the week to see if that solves the leak, but my concern is why do I have what seems to be oil/slush goin…

October 15, 2021 at 4:17 am Probably normal.. But do remove the air side housing from the turbo ONCE a year and clean all inside “Spic & Span.. They can get very nasty. Easy job and no parts needed to do it–Just a good solvent and elbow grease.

March 1, 2021 at 12:44 pm I have the SMX ED-4 Marine Diesel Displays on my 38 Pursuit and the starboard display suddenly looks like burned. What causes this? Can it be fixed?

March 1, 2021 at 3:13 pm I did not read your post title closely enough and I just reviewed your pics. I was thinking you needed to replace the originals with the SMX displays. That is already done so I will back out and hopefully Corey Schmidt chimes in. Sorry for the churn on this one……….

December 30, 2020 at 8:32 am I want to replace my walker airsep coalescing filters, however, the filter is encapsulated by the walker Airsep body….so it is not like a cartridge filter that can be removed and replaced……My question is, are all airseps like this or is there a version that allows you to remove and replace this filter when itā€™s time? The sticker on the side lists Cummins part #3866468 straight filter. Looking online and canā€™t seem to find infor…

January 14, 2021 at 7:48 am I am not happy at all with the install.. The hose attached to the engine needs to be extended and “looped” all the way down to the stringer level and then back up the the S&B filter.. Once that is done, then cut the hose and install the bottle at the lowest practical point.. Plenty of pics of this on this web site Tony

    • Turbo Boost at idle

This topic has 2 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated byLuis Jove 3 years ago

June 19, 2020 at 2:23 pm I have new to me 2003 480 CE, While at idle at the dock the display is showing a reading of 5 InHg, I understand that It should be 0 (no boost) while at the dock at idle. Could it be a bad boost sensor? Would that extra reading maintain itself throughout the cruising RPM range? Appreciate any help you can give me. Luis

June 29, 2020 at 11:46 am Thanks Tony, I will swap transducers between the engines and see if the issue follows the transducer. Will the boost reading affect the fuel consumption readings on the 480 ce? How exactly is the fuel flow determined, by the ECM, the fuel pump?
