August 11, 2019 at 11:27 am I have been battling a vibration on my port motor while under load all season, and will be having props pulled when the boat is hauled for winter lay-up to check balance. Both props were re-pitched last winter and supposedly balanced by a reputable shop, so Im skeptical that they may have missed balancing the port one. Until i can get them checked, Im just trying to rule out other potential causes. I also notice my port motor has higher fuel con…

May 28, 2019 at 11:23 am This winter during lay-up I had all engine mounts replaced on my 2007 Sea Ray with QSB425s. Cummins Minnesota replaced the mounts, as well as serviced all the boat’s coolers and replaced hoses and clamps. With the boat now back in the water, Im noticing substantially more vibration than was present with the old mounts. At idle, while not in gear I barely feel anything thru the hull. However, when in gear im getting a very sharp, high frequ…

June 16, 2019 at 12:33 pm Singing could be the shaft rubbing in the stern tube or cutless bearings. It could be even the damper, alternator, water pump, idler pulley, etc, though that s not likely given that you have that wobble/ vibration issue too. A real alignment includes the entire drive train, much more involved than just getting the couplings to agree. Tonyā€™s comment about the prop key is right on, all the prop to shaft lapping in the world wonā€™t fix an improperl…

April 4, 2019 at 6:55 am First, I want to say thanks to the SBMar team for their help as I’m going through completing a significant number of maintenance items while the boat is laid up for the winter. Nearing the end of the project, but had a couple interesting finds along the way. The boat is a 2007 Sea Ray Sundancer with QSB5.9 425 motors. Approximately 1300 hours on the mains, the last 200 of which have been on a freshwater lake. Prior to that the boat was kep…

February 9, 2019 at 9:56 am The boat is a 2007 Sundancer 40 with QSB 5.9 425HP motors. Looking to replace hoses, particularly the intake/aftercooler/turbo hoses. (#2 in this picture: https://www.sbmar.com/qsb-5-9-engine-hoses/) as Ive noticed one hose starting to fray with apparent dry rot. Also thinking about replacing the cooling hoses as well, but not sure i want to tackle it yet as there is no visible cracking or dryness apparent and they feel good when squeezed. The j…
