December 6, 2021 at 1:38 pm Quick question… As an adherent to Tony’s fresh water flush regime on our 6BTA… What effect, good or bad, does this have on the three pencil zincs in the engine cooling system. It appears the bottom zinc in the aftercooler is the only one that sits in water when the engine is off. Thanks much… John

December 7, 2021 at 6:05 pm I operate in salt water, and proactively fresh flush, engines off. Pencils last longer for sure, however, are still doing their job for the hours the engines are run. Pic of one of my aftercooler’s end caps attached. Pick which one lays in fresh water The bottom aftercooler cap (the brown tinged), immersed zinc was fairing a little better, however, not so good that it would go say, another year. I easily got 3 years from my pencils but you…

October 23, 2019 at 1:55 pm An acquaintance of mine suffered a fuel cooler breakdown on his 6BTA resulting in 16 gallons of sea water in his fuel tanks. $25k later, he’s up and running again BUT… I’ve decided to nip that possibility in the bud and install one of your kits. Now, I rebuilt V8s and British 4 cylinder car engines in my youth so I can turn a wrench. I’ve tackled oil changes/filters and fuel filter changes on the 6BTA in our boat so the …

November 10, 2019 at 7:50 pm Kevin, Due to ease of doing it, I just ran a fuel hose from the red circled “return” to the combo block where the “lower” hose off the fuel cooler enters the combo block. It works great, but does not address the leak potential of the combo block.

August 14, 2019 at 7:11 am On a ZF 80-1a transmission, what volume of fluid is represented between the low mark and high mark on the dipstick? In other words, if itā€™s on the low mark, how much fluid is needed to reach the high mark? Thanks

August 14, 2019 at 2:05 pm Don’t know if you can get a 100% solid answer on this other than measuring it yourself by starting at the low mark and noting what it takes to reach the high mark. FYI – not recommended to run engine oil or gear oil/fluid at high marks considering the potential for pitch and roll.

March 15, 2019 at 3:15 pm Hi guys… I’m looking to install one of your Envirovents on the 6BTA in my Halvorsen. It appears the factory crankcase vent line runs from behind the aftercooler, up alone the upper side of the engine to the front, where it connects to the existing “can” on the timing chain cover. Your installation instructions indicate plugging the engine/vent line connection at the rear, behind the aftercooler. My question is… can…

April 12, 2019 at 7:33 am Thanks Tony & John, great info. I am in almost the exact same situation. I just purchased envirovent and have a couple follow-on questions (my setup is 2006 6bta59 without airssep, open system – breather tube bottom of T just puts blowby into engine room). (1) Can you describe exactly where the old factory breather tube connects at the back of the engine near the aftercooler? If I understand correctly I need to disconnect here and cap…

April 23, 2018 at 12:53 pm Ive been doing maintenance on our Halvorsen GC32 and found that the pencil zinc in the heat exchanger has broken off at the top of the brass plug. It appears that the zinc is still in the hole. See attached picture. Can I drain just enough coolant to lower the level in the exchanger so I can remove the end cap and fish it out? Then I wouldn’t need to replace all 21 qts. If so, approximately how much coolant would have to drained to lower i…
