April 28, 2024 at 6:44 pm Hello, I have a 40 Sundancer with qsb 380’s. Would you guys recommend the use of a turbo blanket? What are the cons and pros. I know it makes the turbo more efficient.

    • Cummins 5.9 QSB 380 hp Temperature Alarm

This topic has 7 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated byTony Athens 3 weeks ago

April 27, 2024 at 8:34 am I was sea trialing a boat we are considering purchasing and while running a short distance at 3000 RPM the overheat alarm went off and the gauge is reading 183 degrees. I am trying to understand what temperature the alarm should go off. It seems like 183 is higher than what I would expect. I would expect about 176 to 178. Question is what temperature is the alarm supposed to go off? 183 degrees is not that much over what I thought would be the n…

April 18, 2022 at 8:11 am After the thorough information and write-ups from Tony and the SBMar team, and the readily available parts kits they supply, I decided to tackle my aftercoolers this year. This is my second year with this vessel, a 2001 Tiara 3800 Open with 6CTA’s, roughly 500 hours. It was previously serviced by Gorham Diesel out of the Boston area. The aftercoolers were replaced with brand new ones 4 years ago, so I am assuming that this is the first “service”…

April 28, 2024 at 3:02 pm That starboard core looks like crap but maybe try pressure testing it after cleaning it incase it still holds pressure?   I dont have the SMX housing (does one exist?), but I do have the SMX core on my Port Side with the original housing and no issues, pressure test passed. My 2nd year with it btw, previous owner didnt do the bench and when I went to do the bench I found corrosion and a failed pressure test

April 24, 2024 at 10:40 am Hi.  2007 vintage QSB 5.9 355hp in a 32′ Tiara Open.  Found these apparent leaks on the rear of the port side motor.  Second two pics are the same  from slightly different angles.  First is on the left rear side of the motor.  What is going on and how to address?  Thanks.  BTW they have around 1250 hrs on them.

April 22, 2024 at 8:44 am Brought a replacement turbo oil drain elbow last year to replace a leaking pitted one.  Came with two gaskets. Mechanic used just one on the re install and said second was just an extra.  Well it was then leaking from the fitting face and the turbo. Pulled fitting and replaced gasket once again and it still leaks same area of the marriage between the fitting face and the turbo.  Should we have used both gaskets?
