QSC 8.3 exhaust smoke issue

April 25, 2022 at 7:12 pm Hey guys, Iām hoping for some good advice. Ā I have Twin QSC 8.3ās Ā now at 900hrs. One is smoking only when accelerating, the other one is very clean. This smoke problem has been there for 5 years, possibly getting slightly worse in recent years. Ā Aftercoolers serviced 2 years ago. No difference since then. How can I check the injectors and fuel injector pump? The boat had sea water in the fuel due to bad fuel breather positions (now fixed) when …
2 RepliesJune 6, 2022 at 9:03 pm The exhaust smoke is black when accelerating under load/ underway. The starboard engine exhaust is clear under load. Ā I think itās a injector or fuel pump issue (maybe over – fuelling?). I guess that I need to get the fuel system tested by a mechanic with all the tech gear? Thanks Clark.

June 11, 2019 at 10:54 pm Two questions: I need to figure out if my 9 year old Barry engine mounts holding down one of my QSC8.3 engines can be carefully disassembled so that I can remove one mount to restore the rusty paint (or replace it) without moving the gearbox. The crux of the problem is that I canāt get decent access to treat the rust with the mount staying in place. 7 RepliesJune 16, 2019 at 10:31 pm If your going to do it then it has to come off the engine completely to be done properly. Itās not that big of a job really – drain the coolant, remove the plumbing tube/hose, and then a few bolts top and bottom and it comes off as a unit. Get it on a bench and remove the bundle for service just as you would the aftercooler. The heat exchangers donāt see the same wear at the sealing surfaces because the pressures are close on both sides (…
