December 19, 2017 at 3:05 pm Just purchased Albin with twin 6BTA5.9 270hp engines. Engines ran at 2600 -2650 rpm with normal temps and oil pressures. Oil is venting from starboard engine crankcase vent tube into bilge at normal oil levels (per “hand marked” dip stick). If I let oil go two quarts low (per dip stick), venting stops and oil level remains constant (over the last 10 hrs run time). I’m still getting a lot of fumes in salon (engines are mount…

June 12, 2020 at 6:25 pm Iā€™m confused but not the first time. You say drain pan and add 12 quarts and mark dipstick . The oil pan capacity chart says the low pan capacity for a 6bta is 13 quarts

    • Impeller Failure

February 26, 2019 at 5:47 pm Both impellers failed on my Cummins 6BTA5.9s after 75 hours. I’ve been in some shallow water and maybe ingested some sandy water, but I would still expect a little more time. The only other thing worth noting: when installing these impellers they are slightly “proud” of the housing. When you put the pump housing cover back on it is tight against the impeller. This causes the cover to get very hot on initial start up. After a…

March 1, 2019 at 7:28 pm 20 years in seawater? IMO, you are playing Russian roulette ! BTW, cams and inner “wear plates” corrode away with time, even when not used.. Tony

    • Belt Tensioner wobble

April 10, 2018 at 7:32 am I recently purchased an Albin with twin 270hp Cummins 6BTAĀ“s. When I replaced the belts, I noticed that the port engineĀ“s belt was shreddedd. Both engines had significant belt dust present. I cleaned and checked all pulleys and replaced belts. When started, I noticed the starboard engineĀ“s belt tensioner and belt movement was “rock solid”, but the port engineĀ“s belt was “wobbling” and the belt tensioner was”bouncing…

April 11, 2018 at 2:17 pm Iā€™m out of town, but Iā€™ll look next week. It looks the same in pictures (ie the tensioner pulley relation to the alternator and idler pulley seem the same). This wobble is either the cause of or the result of the belt ā€œjumpingā€ or ā€œslappingā€ between the crank and water pump. As I said before, both of those pulleys run smooth. I tried adding additional tension to the tensioner while the engine was running with mixed results (smoothed out some, b…

    • Smoke from Crankcase Ventilation Kit

This topic has 4 replies, has 2 voices, and was last updated byJeff Lewis 6 years ago

January 30, 2018 at 6:29 am Just installed the Seaboard Valve Cover Mount CCV kit on my 6BTA (V-drive mount). A white smoke is coming from the filter pictured in my attachment. It seems to occur at all times (engine hot and cold). It doesn’t have much of a smell and there is no oily residue. I’ve only run the engine 1 hour since installation. Any ideas? Jeff
