QSB 5.9 SMX Raw Water pump

November 17, 2017 at 7:55 pm Hi Guys, I recently purchased a pair of SMX Raw water pumps for my Cummins QSB 5.9 engines.. The removal & fitting of the new pumps was 100% plug n play, but I reused the ‘old’ Sherwood elbows.. My question is, are there any advantages to purchasing a new set of the SMX elbows? Are they a better seal, or stronger in any way? Thanks.
5 RepliesNovember 19, 2017 at 7:33 am Marc, One more thing…looking at the bigger picture, are you up on your maintenance of the seawater components and sure that all seawater passages are all clear, hence no back pressures. Here’s an example of HIGH back pressure. I took this “bulging hose” pic surveying a Tiara with 6BTA 370’s that were reportedly “meticulously maintained”. Unreal..but par for the course

November 8, 2017 at 9:47 pm Hello, I have a Sea Ray boat with Cummins QSB 5.9 engines. 425hp. I noticed that there was some corrosion? on the side heat exchangers on both sides, but only at 1 end. Refer to photos.. Can someone please tell me what is happening here? There is no fluid leaking at the moment, but would like to resolve this issue before it becomes larger. Also, I know I’m asking alot, but possible remedy and parts required also would help heaps. If itR…
4 RepliesNovember 9, 2017 at 2:28 pm Hi Rob, To answer your question, NO. not any real reliable service history. I have owned the boat for 14 mths and had a Cummins service 7 mths ago. Incl oils, filters, zincs. Now I am calling my mechanic, & those coolers etc will be on the top of my list. Thanks
