    Hi Guys,
I recently purchased a pair of SMX Raw water pumps for my Cummins QSB 5.9 engines..
The removal & fitting of the new pumps was 100% plug n play, but I reused the ‘old’ Sherwood elbows..
My question is, are there any advantages to purchasing a new set of the SMX elbows?
Are they a better seal, or stronger in any way?
    Thanks.

    Marc,

One more thing…looking at the bigger picture, are you up on your maintenance of the seawater components and sure that all seawater passages are all clear, hence no back pressures. Here’s an example of HIGH back pressure. I took this “bulging hose” pic surveying a Tiara with 6BTA 370’s that were reportedly “meticulously maintained”. Unreal..but par for the course

As Bill stated, zero issues staying with Sherwood elbows. Let us know how you make outā€¦

    Hi Rob,
Yes I did change to the supplied SMX O rings but developed a small leak.
I used a smear of grease, and have now replaced to the Sherwood I rings which are thinner.
Tested ok at idle, but have not been out for a run.

    Mark,

I’ve upgraded to SMX pumps on four separate 6BTA 370s….Pretty sure I always used the flange elbows that were on the old Sherwoods. With a dab of Rectorseal #5 or other light sealant on the oring of course

Did you use new orings, maybe a thin smear of grease? Any signs of an issue, flange leak? Or are you just asking in general?
